Dear Patrons, here's the preview for our next Honest Government Ad! It might seem like a local issue, but it's happening all around the world - deforestation and the destruction of sites sacred to Indigenous peoples - we're seeing it on Mauna Kea, in Hawai'i, and it's happening right here just outside our city of Melbourne. It inspired me to get stuck into our new Environment Minister, Sussan Ley, who just gave the green light for this highway project to proceed. Anyway,  police will move in any day to to evict tree protectors from the Djab Wurrung embassy. So I'm going to send this out to you now, and finish editing the HGA so we can publish it as soon as possible. I hope you like how it sounds.

For those of you in Melbourne/Victoria who want to get involved, see the attached call to action. Catch you all very soonGiordanoPS. do you have a great suggestion for the Authorised By message? Maybe a number-related one? Maybe something un-expected? Leave your suggestion in the comments!

Sussan deserves a lot of shit. That said I'm not sure this is the right project to use to call out how fucked up she is. This project is being pushed through by a Labor state government that claims it wants to negotiate a treaty in good faith. IMO this let's Dan and co off the hook too easily. It only takes one email from Jacinta Allan and the project stops.

Yes, it's getting the message out there and Sussan is a disgrace ... but why aren't the Greens and the ALP tearing her a new one? WTF is the political opposition on this issue and others? The Government has no mandate and just because Scotty says they do doesn't mean it should be challenged.

New Zealand is objectively the better nation. It's like comparing a better America with a better Canada.

Toondah Harbour could be an Authorised By project- check out the Redlands 2030 website. Proposed development on Wildlife protected wetlands.

Thx for this valuable feedback Dan. Let me see what I can do, maybe we can insert a line. I went with the federal angle so that we could engage people on a national level and create more impact. But you're right.

Idea - Do an expose of the Darling River and Menindee Lakes and how upstream the irrigators are robbing water and daming overland flows - I was there about three weeks ago Call me to discuss if you wish 0407478195 Watch this if you can. It is horrible and some may consider it almost not genocide but dislodgement of these people from this area https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/1445489731786/the-point-murray-darling-crisis Three weeks ago 4 Corners also did an expose on it Research NSWs involvement and look at what Senator Bridget Mckenzie says here She is a disgrace https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/mckenzie-says-newstart-not-designed-to-live-on-for-life/vp-AAELXP4

"0 - Zero! That’s how many fucks Dan and Jacinta give about negotiating a treaty with Victoria’s Indigenous people, since they’re the ones who have the power to stop the chainsaws"

Neil Meyers

I think this message should be brought to us by the Count...who loves to count...and with that slight menacing laugh....

One issue with this story is that it glosses over the broader indigenous heritage issues - the trees are incredibly significant living cultural artifacts, and these should considered within the broader landscape context. One difficulty is that most Acts (both State and Federal) become problematic when significance is tested as cultural significance is difficult to interpret within the often black/white viewpoint of the law. There are also difficulties with the intersection of laws to protect native vegetation, indigenous heritage, major infrastructure projects and State and Federal jurisdictions. The idea about the Darling River/NSW water licensing is good but was well covered by 4 corners - maybe the inaction to improve the situation? Land clearing in both NSW and QLD links in to other current issues like the Great Barrier Reef (sediment/turbidity being a major component from land clearing causing eutrophication in streams that lead to coral bleaching).

Government does not care a shit about flora, neither 600 year old trees nor Aborigines. Constitutional recognition with an enshrined voice to Parliament appear too great a threat to the complexities of an as yet still to be truly dismantled White Australia policy. Perhaps too much of an affront to the godly miracle of a Pentecostalist at the helm of government? Perhaps, simply, too progressive for the neoliberals (ruining) running this country. They idea that a voice to government of 250 nations of indigenous peoples - the singularly longest surviving group of nations - 65,000 years - is too overwhelming for the white folk who stole the land a mere 230 years ago. Maybe the simpler route would be to challenge this government and its colonial matriarch at the international court of justice for land and economic theft, genocide, kidnapping, slavery, illegal incarceration and simply take back their entire island in compensation. I think justice would be served by paying economic rent to the rightful owners of this land. The current government would shudder at the very idea of losing it all through their simple-mindedness and brazen bigotry.
