Dear PatronsHere's the preview of our new Honest Government Ad which we'll publish in the coming days, ahead of next week's Melbourne Cup.I know, it's not a typical issue for an Honest Government Ad, and there are many other things happening in the world right now. We'll get onto those issues next - particularly the press freedom developments unfolding in auspol. But after seeing last week's ABC expose on what happens to discarded and retired racehorses; and after learning how generously our (state) government subsidises the racing industry - I was moved to cover this topic. Most people simply have no idea. And there are literally zero satirical videos about the Melbourne Cup (I checked) so somebody HAD to make one taking the piss out of it.Plus, it's good to keep things fresh. We've made 40 Honest Government Ads and this is the first one focusing on animal welfare. So here we are.I hope you like how it sounds and I'll catch you in a few days for the video release.Giordano xo

Really liking the sound of this add. It hurts and it's gonna hurt more with a visual, I already know. Can't wait for the more in-depth pod cast also. I can only imagine it'll delve deeper into the violence against women (a massive issue probably worthy of its own video alone) and the thousands of horses left to be tortured and killed. Disgusting day of the year, I'm ashamed I've ever put a bet in in the past.

Great work! Love that you tie all the social issues in with the animal welfare issues in such a compelling, WTF were we thinking, kinda way! thanks heaps.

David Donaldson

Like "Make sure you include the kids" line

Just right tone... Disposable culture celebrating 5 minutes while treating the elegant animals as disposable dog food. I just don't get it. Whipping beasts of burden when they are doing their best and of no danger to anyone is barbaric. Industry claiming it looks after animals while they are 'involved' in racing was hardly a ringing endorsement it cares what happens in retirement.

Marissa Theodore

Great work as always! The audio alone sounded pretty brutal, so I expect the video will be quite impactful, as it should be. Among your other amazing work, I'm very glad you occasionally take these little side tangents to challenge the cultural and social conventions that Australian society so intransigently clings to - "traditions" which are well past their use by date.

Love the Fuckup and and the 'evolving' bit. Keep up the good work. Better late than never with the Cup. Probably hold water any time though.....

Robyn Degotardi

Love the Fucup! Certainly prompted some rethinking of family traditions here. Nicely ties in with Depts of Gambling and Alcohol consumption too.

SALLY WARMINGTON

Great work. I have never seen the point of it all but wasn't aware until recently of the extent of the cruelty. Time to make it very clear and convince people to turn away from this cruel "sport".

Fantastic work team, can't wait to see the results!

Bob Kavanagh

Excellent , sums it up beautifully - can't wait for the graphics.

Terrific. Well done. We've got the same detestable problem here in the United Socialist Soviet States of America. Small point: you might want a tiny boost in the 2-4K range to cut through in playback on cheesy speakers. Other than that. great mix. Wait a minute ... if Australia is 'down under, 'does that make America 'up over?' If it does, we're all fuc*ed, and no missionaries required. Have a good one.

Thanks for doing this, mate. I long for a day when we humans no longer exploit animals for anything but just live together on Earth in peace. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" should include all animals, not just humans, methinks. :)

Thank you so much for the terrific feedback on this preview, everyone - I'm just about to finish editing for tonight and it's so nice to read all your comments before heading to bed. Looking forward to getting this out asap

Hi Trader thanks for the tip! Do you mean eq boosting the vocal track, or the whole thing?

R.I.S.E.

The voices in particular. The ladies have wonderfully sultry voices without a lot of high end sibiliance. I would hate to hear the voice overs get lost in the mix (I was an audio engineer many years ago and did a lot of jingle work). You can also create two mixes and A-B them with some friends for their input. The track itself is killer. Can't wait for the vid.

thejuicemedia

Yes David! Ever since we moved to Melbourne I was struck by the way the whole event was sanitised and normalised for children, who then obviously grow up loving it and associating it with a good old family tradition :-(

thejuicemedia

Cool, I'll try that out - thanks again for the tip!

Willa Cartwright

Giordano, This is so needed at the moment! Thank you for making this.

Rob Aalders

Terrific. Right on the spot - catches the crassness of the 'Race that Stops The nation THINKING!"\

thejuicemedia

Thank *you* for making it possible to make this Willa!

thejuicemedia

Thanks Rob! 'Race that stops the nation thinking" - i love that, should have used that!

Andrew Warr

I was rather ambivalent to the FucCup except for the excessive alcohol, and tarted up nags running riot down the parade ground and then in the bogans toilets....but the audio and the background sound effects are enough to realise this is one monumental shit show made on the misery of animals..... I'm done with it.

Nick

Well, they really didn't like that one.

Elizabeth Butler

Fantastic work..yet again. That is great and really exposes the total b.s. that the fucup really is.
