(Preview) Honest Government Ad | The Safeguard Mechanism (Patreon)

Dear PatronsYou've been very patient with us as we took a break in January and spent some family time together. But the wait is over: at the start of February, we quietly snuck back in to the studio to produce our first new Honest Government Ad of 2023. And today I'm here to share the preview of it with you all.But first, I just want to say how grateful I am for the privilege to have been able to take a decent break in January from work (as fun and rewarding as it is) - and for the opportunity to recharge and be with the kids during these fleetingly precious years. Luca has now started school. It was a very emotional start of the month for us (for the parents! Luca is fine - he loves school) so this feels like the end of an era, and the start of a new one. Speaking of new eras... Our first HGA for 2023 is about our new Labor government's climate policy!I'll have a few more words to say about this HGA when I share the final video with you in the coming days. But for now I just want to say that I feel the HGA series is going to play a really important role during this season of the 47th Parliament. Because, as we enter the era of greenwashing and delay tactics that will define the 2020s, there's an even greater need for people to understand what our climate policies actually do. Yes, the Coalition (aka the Shit Party) is gone. But they've left a skidmark that will continue to shape climate politics in Australia. Because they set the bar so low for climate policy, that Labor doesn't have to do much at all to appear vastly better. And we need it to do a lot better, not just be Shit-Lite.So I thought we'd help them out with an honest ad about their first climate-related policy - the Safeguard Mechanism - which will define Australia's climate policy for the rest of this decade, and determine how (and if) we'll reach our 2030 emissions target. Normally, I only share the audio previews with Patrons in our Previews tier and above. But I thought it would be nice to kick off the year together. So I hope you enjoy it.
