The "beauty" is people are going to great lengths to make sure their children will have great education and plenty of money to spend - they say they want their children to have a good life... and then they go ahead and keep destroying the place their children will have to live in. Politics is about negotiating targets, they are talking about statistics without realizing we are really talking about the world we live in. It's the same wherever you go. In Germany, an environmental activist who glued himself to the road was taken to court because an ambulance did not make it to A&E in time and the patient died. While the death is tragic and sad, thousands are killed in traffic accidents every year and people just shrug. Besides, if we don't protest, it's all going to pot anyway.

What world "leaders" are pontificating to mitigate the climate crisis is pathetic, razzle-dazzle, greenwashing. It's the same old, same old ploy to pretend that they're going to reverse course while in reality they're still supporting, subsidizing, bowing down to the fossil fools. Such sh¡tfnckery makes me ill.

I'd love to give a rating but cannot figure out how/where.

The podcast was, as always, brilliant, funny and sooo very insightful.

I have read a few really interesting books on climate science and we are at the point of no return. Even if we stopped polluting today were fucked, we have to take carbon from the atmosphere and ocean now. It will cost so much to do this without idiots adding more carbon. On the positive side the atmosphere will still be breathable in my lifetime although I will most likely die from COPD. The people in charge think ignoring the problem is the best strategy but it is hard to ignore your house being destroyed by a flood.

Have you read this one? It's going to mean more than heavy rainfall events and bushfires!! AND it's going to happen much much sooner than people think! The Uninhabitable Earth: A Story of the Future by David Wallace-Wells

Offsets and carbon capture are a waste of time and in the case of the latter money. To scrub the atmosphere in time to sort out the planet would need over a million of the best carbon capture units we currently have available, they would need to be built and operating within the next 5 years and would cost approx 60% of the current GDP of the ENTIRE planet. At the moment we have the capability of building about 35 a year. The only way we are going to sort this is by a complete cessation of the use of fossil fuels within the next twelve to eighteen months! THAT is the science.
