Dear PatronsIt's Canada's turn. After many many (really very many) requests from Canadians, we've finally made an Honest Government Ad for them, eh! As you might recall, I was fortunate to travel to Canada back in April, and to meet and learn from some excellent folks there. This episode is in great part a result of that trip. I'll share more about that when we publish the HGA.But for now, here's the audio preview! I'm sharing this one it with all our Patrons, not just those in the Previews and higher teirs, because the HGA itself won't be out for another couple of days, and I'd like everyone to get some new Juice before August is over. I tried hard to get it out by the end of August, but this was a big HGA length-wise - and probably also one of the trickiest in terms of getting my head around so much new shitfuckery. (Thankfully I had some great help from locals on this front, about which I'll share more in the podcast).  To all our Aussie Patrons: I think it's really instructive for us to know more about what's happening in Canada. Canadians have often commented on our HGAs that what's happening in Australia is so similar to what's going on over there. Which makes sense - resource extractivism and global capital are forces that operate across national borders. But even more pertinently, I was struck by how similar Australia and Canada are in terms of settler-Indigenous relations. It's almost like we have a very similar history... *thinking emoji*As always, you are the first to hear the HGA, so feedback is warmly welcomed. This episode doesn't have an Authorised by message... instead it will have the "A message from..." jingle at the end (the Canadian government's version of our Authorsed by messages). So if you have any good suggestions for the final sign-off, lmk in the comments!I'll catch you in a few days with the HGA!Giordano

It is so fun to hear audio-only of a line like “home to dangerous parasites” and then wonder “will this be a picture of Rob Ford?”

thejuicemedia

haha Rob Ford definitely makes an appearance somewhere :)

Ken Weeks

A great HGA. It's becoming very, very frightening how this is happening around the world - especially in the democracies. The ordinary people are not putting up any resistance to the greed and utter destruction of our planet. The she'll be right attitude is spreading.

Diana

Holy Cow! This sounds like one terrific whodunnit. What on earth are our northern neighbors getting up to, eh?

Amanda Hunt

LOVE THIS (I mean the HGA, not what the govt is doing!)

David Aronsson

That one is good (and horrific in what it describes) even on just audio! Ecuadorians(?) said NO! in a referendum about fossil industry exploitation of a important forest area and loosing millions in revenues. Rich countries like Canada (and Norway) just keep on going.

Mark D Larsen

What a bullseye, eh? 🎯 And here I once thought I might try to seek asylum there. Canucks are just as bought off by the fossil fools as their neighbors to the south. Can't wait to spread this far and wide… or should I say… tar and wide?

John L Smith

Excellent as usual, and frighteningly similar to the tactics used by the fossil fuel industry around the globe, especially in Australia - I note that our "beloved" (not really) Environment Minister just approved another coal mine extension in Queensland's Bowen Basin - her fourth since June - for the mine to run another 50 years!! FFS, anyone would think there is no climate crisis at all given the rate of approvals for new fossil fuel projects - Tanya - signs away the future of our children and grandchildren while pretending she want's zero extinctions - maybe she wasn't including the human race in that?

Robert Bismuth

Awesome as always! It is good to see what's happening north of the Canada/US border get exposed. I'm a bit surprised you missed some of the awful behavior in Alberta where the "ruling class" is well to the right of pretty much anything - Trump, Hitler, Attila-the-Hun, Genghis, assorted Visigoths, etc. Canada does market itself well - images of the "great outdoors and those paragons of virtue, the Mounties gazing over the unspoiled (as far as the viewer can see) lands (and I'm still laughing about your expression "horsey police" ... very apt these days). As a Canadian living in the US, I am personally embarrassed by the downhill slide in standards within Canada ... I've always thought of Canada as the best place to bolt to should the US elect a presidential candidate currently facing 91 criminal felon charges. Maybe it isn't the right place to bolt to anymore.

So many memorable lines, but perhaps the best is a Freudian slip right from a government official's mouth, "Canada is a major oil and gas producing company...er, country." Every corporation wants to be joined at the hip to government, and most powerful politicians like to be joined at the hip to the big $$ of corporate donors. "Aww sweety, you didn't think..."

This is NOT just a Canada issue. The RShit Party in the USA supports this shitfuckery. While Kitimat BC is well north of the terminals around Vancouver. The ships from the Vancouver area terminal pipelines feed travel Haro Strait between San Juan Island (USA) and Vancouver Island (Canada) on their way to the Salish Sea and the Pacific Ocean so the threat being faced is familiar. Not surprising to hear that a disgraced US General is involved: Cool and Normal. https://www.businessinsider.com/heres-how-david-petraeus-got-off-with-only-a-misdemeanor-2016-1 We have been fighting Canadian shitfuckery up here in the Puget Sound (Salish Sea) area for years! Victoria BC finally stopped dumping raw sewage into the Salish Sea in 2021 (real shit! Shitfuckery!!). https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/victoria-sewage-plant-1.5867582 Before that it was tar sands! (The pictures in this article are ghastly!: https://insideclimatenews.org/news/21112021/tar-sands-canada-oil/ ) Washington state passed oil-spill legislation in 2019: https://www.eopugetsound.org/magazine/oil-spill-legislation https://waconservationaction.org/washington-state-legislature-passes-oil-spill-prevention-act/ Yet the fight continues. If the Mango Mussolini or some other RShit Party clown is sworn in January 2025 I fear for Earth’s future as a habitable planet. Get your grandchildren ready for life in domed communities.

Jonathan Milford

All because Prof Graeme Samuels was told not to consider climate change in his review of the EPBC Act by our previous COALition government, despite it being the Key Threatening Process for all ecological communities. Have you seen Ken Henry's review of the NSW BCA? He gets it right. We, and the Climate Council, are trying to get Tanya to put a Climate Trigger in the EPBC Act to stop her approving more carbon bombs.

Kristine

Kevin Bloody Wilson wisely informed us that “ You can’t say C*** in Canada”

Kristine

…..seems a shame when so appropriate

Leak

Surely you meant "You c*** say c*** in Canada"?

Rebecca Sweeney

Brilliant and horrifying- the link between fossil fuel companies gov'ts and militarism
