Dear Juice Media PatronsHere's the latest Honest Government Ad you've made possible - and our final one for 2023!Visit the UK!After the great response to our first UK Honest Government Ad last year, I promised we'd make another one this year... and since the UK has an election coming soon (it can't come soon enough tbh) I thought we'd lend a hand, by reminding voters there of some of the bullshit to expect as the election nears. And about tactical voting. It's pretty lame that UK voters have to resort to "tactical voting" - it makes me appreciate all the more the (much fairer) preferential voting system we have here in Australia, where you can actually vote for the candidate you most like, without worrying about "wasting" your vote. But in lieu of such an electoral system in the UK, I thought I'd use this HGA to remind voters there of the need to vote tactically to circumvent their crappy FPTP voting system. So if you have friends and family who vote in the UK (preferably ones who don't mind some swearing) please share this HGA with them. This is our last HGA for 2023. Thank you for supporting our work this year. I am aware of how hard the cost of living crisis, inflation and interest rate rises have affected everyone this year. So I want you to know that I am humbled by, and deeply appreciate your continued support of our work during this time. I've tried to add more value to the HGAs this year by focusing on issues and perspectives which I feel have been lacking in the public discourse - from electoral reforms and crackdowns on protest rights, to RBA policy and Indigenous resistance movements - topics which are difficult to communicate because of their complexity (and sometimes, sheer dryness). I feel like this is the best way of making your financial support really worth it - by channeling it into areas where there's a dire need for better public understanding and literacy of such topics.  If you have any suggestions for topics you've like me to cover in 2024, please drop a comment below! We'll be taking a short break over the christmas and new year period, before launching into a new year of HGAs. The other day, my son Luca (who is now 6) told me I work too much. He's right. I draw some comfort in knowing that the work we're doing here is helping to address some of the very real problems he might face later in life. Nevertheless, finding a balance between work and being a present parent is my greatest challenge at the moment. I'm sure many of you with children can relate to this. So, over the next few weeks I'll be focusing on addressing this and spending some undivided time with Luca and Juno. For the past 7 years I've put together an end-of-year video in the last few days of December. This year I decided instead to make a December HGA and to focus on being with family during those last days of the year. But fear not, I've collected a nice set of bloopers and behind the scenes goodies over the course of 2023, which I plan to put together in the new year. So stay tuned for that :)Until then, I want to wish you and your families a safe and hopefully restful time over the new year period. I hope you can carve out a decent chunk of time to be with your loved ones - and to recharge before you get back to work. I know many of you here do important work in the world. And for this, I want to thank you. With gratitudeGiordano - and the Juice Media family / team

Have a good one! :)

Ewan McEwan

Impressive that a bunch of Aussies can call the UK situation so accurately - well done Juice Media!

Hamish Fawns

Another great video to cap another year of amazing HGAs. Thanks for all you do.

Clive Hulett

Wonderful, wonderful wonderful. The truth in a nutshell. How glad I am that I left that benighted Place, 43 years ago – but where am I now?

Peter Todd

Hmmm, I wonder if Novara will pick this one up? I'd be impressed : ) Great work guys.

Peter Todd

Oh, and whoever came up with "haunted Dickensian lampost" should get a gold star, it's simply brilliant and so apt.

Adam M

Hey Giordano and amazing team.... This new HGA looks pretty awesome... 🙌 ...but just curious... do you have the wrong spelling in the URL for Tactical Voting at about 2min 40secs into the preview video??

thejuicemedia

yes :( i noticed it just after publishing and nearly punched my monitor! It kills me when I insert typos in the videos, but especially so when it's in the call to action! I've corrected it in subsequent uploads to Insta, Tiktok, Twitter etc - but it will have to stay on Youtube :( :-/

Mark D Larsen

Sure looks like the handbasket has pulled into the destination in the UK. I guess I should be comforted that we're not alone in the USA…? NOT.

Peter Todd

Oddly enough, I came across them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Suitably understated and amusing, how British of them : )

Francesco Finucci

given you're working on UK politics, it would be asbolutely amazing if you collaborated with Jonathan Pie, at some point. He makes a brilliant commentary on British politics, by posting videos where he pretends he's a BBC journalist that starts ranting at the news he's asked to report.

Palitja Moore

Than you, Giordano and team, for another brilliant year of satire. You help keep me and my family sane and feeling less alone in the socio-political-environmental quagmire we find ourselves in. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Carve out that family and self-care time and we'll see you on the flip side. 🧡✌

Palitja Moore

The correct spelling is in the text twice after that, so anyone keen to do tactical voting should realise. 🤞🏼

What a fantastic HGA Giordano. There's a but but. Fossil fuels. Specifically electric cars. This is an enormous scam that has sucked everyone in. I should keep my mouth shut because as a miner, explorer, our current mining boom ( and logging boom) is due to the electric car wankery. Dig into that one. For instance, who owns car companies? So here we are, humans, the same species that invented space travel and open heart surgery, but we can't get better than 20km per litre from petrol? Yeah, um.. then do some research on arctic ice cores to understand the inter-glacial period we are in and how our atmospheric inputs have just bought forward the inter-glacial maximum by an unknown amount of time. We can continue this conversation some other time and place. Meanwhile... Keep up the good work Giordano.

Kim Hillier

Oh, and find out why research into why electrical energy generation from tidal and current power isn't a thing and why we have gone with massively inefficient solar PV and equally useless wind power. Don't get me started on poverty and why the feel good, "end fossil fuels" idea of rich entitled predominantly white westerners will have almost no impact on climate change. Once fossil fuels are gone, what shall we lubricate those electric cars with? Olive oil? Go on, start me up, I'll never stop. (Courtesy Keith and Mick).

Anthony Hortin

Thank you to everyone who's worked on this years videos. Enjoy your well earned break over Christmas and the New Year.

Alan Marel

Thanks Giordano and team. I always look forward to your amazing videos and your calling out of shit-fuckery wherever it is found.

Re: suggestions for a future episode…. Extremely scary stuff happening in Hungary with Victor Orban, and the fact that the Republicans in the US are now looking to what he has done, and using it as a template for what they can implement over there. If you do choose that topic, you may never be able to holiday in Hungary while he is in power.

Michael Regan

Hey, mates and gentle ladies, could you slow it down a tad, please? Us non-UKies need a bit more time to read all that's flashed on he scrren

Michael Regan

Hey, mates and gentle ladies, could you slow up the pace a bit, please? Us non-UKies need a few extra nanoseconds to digest things we're not familiar with. Thanks ... great job, BTW.

Mark Havass

Shared on FB. Thanks for all of the amazing work that the Juice media team do. Glad to be a Patron and support this important work.

thejuicemedia

Your support over the past year is deeply appreciated - thank you Mark!

thejuicemedia

So glad to hear this Palitja - and thank you for your support over the past two and a half years! 🙏💛

thejuicemedia

Thank you Anthony - wishing you likewise all the best for the new year ahead and a restful break! 🙏💛

thejuicemedia

Cheers Alan (There's already a couple of places I already wouldn't go near, so i can probably add Hungary to the list!)

David Baldwin

A blessing on you, your crew, and your well-deserved time off. Thank you for all you do!

Arnaud Bertrand

Newbie here on the back of this video shared on twatter (sorry x) What a bloody excellent video! That this country is fucked politically and economically (thanks Brexit) is hardly news these days sadly. If I may ask, and of course if resources allow, can you look into the headfuck that was the PPE acquisition here in the UK? The scandal is currently playing out in the media. Keep up the great work y’all. X

David Baldwin

I was thinking about what another commenter said about slowing down. That resonates, but I think there is more to it than that. I coach presenters who use PowerPoint, and I frequently have to explain to them that text and speech are both audio channels (we ”hear” text we read). So when a speaker puts text on the screen while speaking, the audience mind cannot attend to both—try listening to two news broadcasts simultaneously. So inevitably one is lost. Usually it is the text. Watching the ads, I am aware of a kind of mild internal panic as my mind tries desperately to catch the headlines and quotes while still attending to the voiceover. Not my place to tell you how to deal with this, but I thought it might be helpful to shed light on an underlying dynamic. Cheers.

thejuicemedia

Welcome aboard Arnauyd, thank you so much for the support - and for the topic suggestion!

thejuicemedia

And likewise to you and yours David - thanks for all your support here!

thejuicemedia

Thanks for the expert feedback David, I'll take this on board. It's a fine balance between keeping the momentum at the right pace (which helps with engagement and to create the feeling of an advert) - and ensuring people can follow. Maybe I didn't get it quite right on this one - sometimes we find the videos are too slow; other times that we may have been too fast! That being said, I'm not super worried about people not reading all the text, especially the headlines. Those are mostly there to indicate that there ARE sources for our key claims - for those who want them - but I imagine most people don't read them!

David Baldwin

I see the problem—how would you pause the video so people could read, without pausing the video. The bias is towards the speaker, so you’re right—most people are probably not reading them. I think the way you present headlines makes it clear that all your assertions are based on fact—a signature feature, and a compelling one. Signals credibility. I will tell my internal panic not to worry—we can attend to the nice lady(s) and simply trust the evidence. More fun that way!

Hamish Fawns

I usually watch the videos a couple of times. The first time just for entertainment value and to get the overall message. The second time I will pause and read the text. I think the pace of the videos is great.

Hi, can you do a video on the ppe scandal here in the uk
