When and where can we see a list of characters that we are not allowed to vote for? Otherwise I will keep voting for Hank. Not because I want something about his current life (say re: divorce) revealed, but because there is room for flashbacks about his youth explaining how he became the way he was. Or something like that (we have had several such bonus strips in the past). Of course, David has every right to blacklist him from ever appearing on a bonus strip - that's not a problem. He's running the show! But we may need a sticky notice (or some such) with a list of forbidden characters. At least I would prefer to see such a list on a regular basis. Mostly not to aggravate Willis unwittingly. I have honestly thought that Hank simply never won the popular vote. If he is out of bounds, I will vote for somebody else :-) Cheers to D.M.Willis and all the other followers!

@Rachael: I'm waiting for Joyce to show Becky that box of mysterious drawings of "Joyce Lynn," because Becky will recognize Jocelyne IMMEDIATELY. It will likely take a while for the lightbulb to be fully illuminated, but they'll figure it out eventually. I have to think that at some point we'll circle back to the fact that Ethan knows about Jocelyne (https://www.dumbingofage.com/2013/comic/book-3/04-just-hangin-out-with-my-family/writer/). When he and Joyce were still talking, he tried to hint (without violating her privacy) that she should reach out to the sister she doesn't know she has, but it didn't take.

Yep, this. Appeared since the timeskip, isn’t being kept as a deliberate question mark (Dana and Jordan are big ones here, but people have also been hoping for a Hank or Jocelyne reveal SINCE the timeskip and the Patreon will not be where they’re revealed.) Is alive, so no Mike or Blaine or Ross.

"Characters who haven't appeared post timeskip"!!?? You do realize that many of us are either unable or unwilling to maintain such a list in our heads :-). That, IMHO, is the source of the problem. Also, A) is that a word from the creator? B) is *THE TIMESKIP* a uniquely defined point in the story? When exactly was that? I vaguely recall several panels of seasons changing on IU campus. That's probably it, but the story arcs have become a blur since, so...

Yes. The semester break after the kidnapping is what we’re talking about. By this point, MOST of the cast is back on the table, including characters who are pretty minor. (Parents, for example, or Joyce’s hallmates.) The big ones are very intentionally being kept in reserve: Hank, Jocelyne, Joyce’s mystery brother Jordan, Sarah’s ex-roommate Dana - and there’s a sentence in every voting post that Willis is not going to reveal guarded information early, which is specifically ABOUT the characters who haven’t appeared post-skip and who are at this point clearly being saved for dramatic reveals when they DO reappear. Additionally, Mike is dead. Don’t vote hoping for flashback strips.

Publishing a list would blunt the surprise when the banned character re-appears. This also happens when top vote-getters are ignored, but that only happens one at a time. These polls can't be for satisfying our curiosity, because mysteries and revelations drive the plot. It might be better to have votes for settings, such as the gym, the cafeteria, or The Stairs, rather than persons or flashbacks.

@All Thanks for the explanations. I honestly never wanted any spoilers, nor anything even mildly creepy (like Mike). I was simply unable to pick up the cues. Either because A) I'm a foreigner, B) I'm a mathematician, C) I have a mild case of Asperger, D) all of the above. FWIW this is place is very civil, I think. I recall Jeph Jacques's fan forum getting out of control at some points, which lead us to try and self-heal that place (yours truly included, even though I declined the offer to become a moderator). Happy reading (and voting) to all!

Really, Willis isn't going to tip his hand by giving us a LIST of who we can't get bonus strips about. He wants to be cagey about what's coming up. But her fourth place win means that we can easily deduce that Jocelyn, Hank, and Mike would be on that list if he DID give us such a list.

The rules are at the top of every poll. There isn't an official list, but the three that got more votes than Dina in the last poll were Jocelyn, Hank, and Mike. (Dana tied, and I'm assuming she also falls under the "guarded information" clause).

I mean, the Mike vote this time specifically asked for "imaginary friend or flashback" Mike, not current-day Mike('s grave). I'd expect to see something like 4 panels of Mike-Ethan-Amber high-school shenanigans from a prompt like that, though understand it might be too specific an ask for the bonus strip rules.

Those qualifiers were bad and Willis should ignore them. There are no bonus strips to make about Mike in childhood or any of that, and imaginary friend Mike is gone—attempts to conjure him further are dumb and ghoulish. We know Mike’s story. Mike’s story is over. All we should get is a coda, and that only once.

Plot twist: Dina appears on-panel in this strip, but her in-universe powers of going unobserved have transferred to the real world & therefore none of us can spot her.

@Sajuuk-Khar: Maybe one day Willis will do for Mike what he did for Walkyverse Ruth years later - have some of the characters reflect on their interactions with him while visiting his gravesite. (Although I doubt Mike's death is nagging at Willis the way WV Ruth's - not to mention WV Dina's - did.)

Slightly off-topic but not really: Willis is posting new character models on the DoA Tumblr, with the two most recent being Dina and Becky. Becky, in her post, is grinning and pointing upward, and with Dina's post directly above hers Becky appears to be saying, "Take a good look - yep, I'm hittin' that! I am the luckiest girl in Indiana!"
