It makes sense to me. Cheating on Joe would be lying to someone she cares about. Assuming the orgy is fully consensual on the part of everyone involved, that seems pretty solidly better from a moral standpoint. Joyce has thrown out the biases that would have made her feel that that was immoral. Whether she wants to is a whole other question, but morality speaking, I like her priorities.
