Joyce's response is hostile, but rooted in her actual bad experience. Dorothy's response is a more conventional polite lie. "Nothing you might want is to be had here" is the joint message. I did a mental review of the situation. While Joyce and Dorothy may soon actually need a ride home, it's Comic Book Now, and they can call for one on Zoomr. "Frosty" is approaching two very drunk women with a proposal to enter a car with a stranger.

New theory: Dorothy and Joyce and Joe end up in a polyamorous triad not because of Dorothy and Joyce’s massive, mutual unresolved sexual tension, but because, in an effort to keep Dorothy from getting back with Walky, Joyce proposes “look, we can just share Joe, he’s very large.”

But Dorothy grew up with Joe. He's her ex's best friend. She's not getting into any kind of relationship with him. The best you can hope for is a triad where there's Joe/Joyce and Joyce/Dorothy, but absolutely no Joe/Dorothy.
