"...I mean, that's a Grotesque, but..."

Andrea Andrew

I knew Dorothy was ethnically Jewish. Just like Joe and Ethan.

Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games

I don’t care if it’s a gargoyle, a grotesque, or a relief, I’m just worried she’s gonna frieze up there 😕

VengeanceKnight

Batman is Jewish, actually. It’s through his mother, Martha Wayne (née Kane), who was Jewish. It’s just not dwelt on as much as it’s dwelt on for his maternal cousin Kate.

Kelly (they-them)

Did you see the completed version of this one or just the pencils?

Harold

The two couples are reunited, A-G has resumed her perch, and poor Dorothy is left to walk home alone. She needs Walky right now. Or Joyce. Or both. For different reasons. Or the same reason. Whatever.

Harold

@Magic Chopstick Games: Vigorously clapping and booing simultaneously.

Diane

I wouldn't put it past Willis for Amazi-Girl responding that way just so he could make that joke.

TobyTura

maybe dotty/amber IS a solution...

Anna K

Wait, since when is Dorothy Catholic? I thought her parents were big on "letting her decide for herself" and raising her in a faith-neutral manner, and I certainly don't recall her converting to Catholicism in-strip.

Packy Anderson

Anyone named O'Malley is Catholic by default. Whether they're PRACTICING or not is another issue.

Simon Magid

There was a strip quite a while ago where Dorothy mentions getting online hate for being Jewish, I think.

Simon Magid

Also speaking as a Jew: The original idea of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster was creating a hero who fought for the underdog and the little guy, and I personally think that is an idea that deserved and still deserves to spread and be used. Some of the modern iterations have nothing to do with this, mind you, and quite a few of these deserve nothing more than a garbage bin.

joe mcguire

Better than being unethically Jewish that’s for sure

David M Willis

this is the second time on this comment page you've responded with amber's information to a question about dorothy and now i'm worrying about you, packy

Andrea Andrew

I think one of Dorothy’s parents or grandparents was Catholic, and may have tried to teach her Catholicism.

Andrea Andrew

She might also need Joe, for reasons. No, seriously. I think Joe can help her out, being an old friend she needs to reconcile with.

Harold

@Anna K: Dorothy is half-Jewish and half-Catholic by birth, atheist by (parentally supported) choice.

Girlycore

Buddy you even linked Amber's page - is this a bit?

Girlycore

Also her surname (likely) wouldn't have come from her mother, so even if you were right you'd be wrong.

Girlycore

Wow I didn't know Willis employed sensitivity readers, this makes me love the comic a WHOLE lot more <3

T Campbell

I wasn't sure what, if anything, could start to bring Dorothy out of the self-loathing spiral she's been in, but this feels like progress for her in a way that her talks with Walky, Joyce, and Ruth haven't.

Andrea Andrew

I guess this is why Dorothy seeks Amber/AG out in future comics.

Packy Anderson

*blink*blink* I plead temporary insanity.
