Rob McBobson

"And I mean 'fuck-all' with a hyphen. I'm not implying you missed some sort of otherwise ubiquitous Amberian sexual conquests."

Railway Series Book Club

"knob" is a very british thing for walky to call himself. did he pick that up from jennifer "half-english/'i look a fright'" billingsworth?

Sajuuk-Khar

NEVER! He picked that up from JASON

Joe360

You should tell Amber that, Walky.

Kelly (they-them)

Walky isn't surprised it happened, but he is sad about it

Logibear

Walky you're missing the point. You could aim for the Perfect 7 and get dumped 5 more times.

KittyKai

Joyce's gayness was obvious to literally everyone except Joyce and Reddit x3

Crunchos cereal

That’s a rare skill, talking to a pillow and being audible across the room.

Crunchos cereal

Is this the so-called ’pillow talk’?

AE Gonzalez

I mean, Reddit chuds are a special kind of stupid.

Harold

Walky's got his ship together

Gale Tazzin

walky's self-awareness is always the sharpest when it's self-depreciating

C

Walky called this shit like Babe Ruth months before the swing. It's just a prediction he now regrets because it came true at the worst possible time.

Railway Series Book Club

okay that does make more sense but i feel like i was justified in assuming he'd pick it up from somebody he at least half-way respects (vs. jason, who he like, quarter-way respects at best)

Kiri Blackthorn

and just like that, i'm on team amber/walky.

GundamBradley

Hey now, Walky, cheer up: you and Amber were never officially dating. Actually, no, he's calling her a third girlfriend here in such a scenario, not an ex, so that's probably already being accounted for.

5099 5618 v2.0

@MB Amber accelerated the timeline, ever so slightly.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Joe360 In person. Once she's healed.

Grace Serenity

Booster, you're stirring all the pots. They can be left alone for a little bit! Let the soups simmer, my they!

Astariel

Some interesting insight into Walky's POV here. In panel 2, he refers to Joyce as his friend. I wasn't sure he would have called her that even before the whole thing with Dorothy. (Has he ever called her that directly before?) But even now, after she 'stole' Dorothy and rubbed his face in it, he's still referring to her in present tense as his friend. This makes me even more curious about the preview panel with Joyce looking thoughtful while Walky smirks at her. The last panel is also interesting. No anger or blame for Amber at all. Has he always thought that Joyce & Dorothy were inevitable? Or is this a retroactive interpretation to make himself feel slightly better about being dumped? I'm sure he recognized a grain of truth in his jokes about Joyce wanting Dorothy, the more so as time went on and it became more obvious, but did he see Dorothy's attraction to Joyce? As recently as two days ago he pooh-poohed the idea of them having sex to Jennifer and Alice.

Lazuli

when did he and jason hang out

MDL

Really surprised Walky considers Joyce a friend considering how at odds the two have been and Joyce openly mocking Walky to his face after she stole his girlfriend.

HenryVolt

Either just take one day or find another route to class. One way or another he could use some distance.

Andrea Andrew

I always knew, once Joyce and Dorothy got together, they would go back to this couple that broke up offscreen and needed more exploration.

darklion

FUCK ALL *ahem* carry on

HenryVolt

He probably doesn't have a high criteria for friends. What I'm really wondering is what Joyce would say if you ask her "Is Walky your friend?"...while we're at it ask Sarah as well.

Andrea Andrew

Yes, but he seems more upset about the awkwardness right now, and Amber, then his two active ex girlfriends with better partners.

Smoochie

I’m…cautiously beginning to think my theory that Walky is madder at Dorothy than Joyce might actually have some meat on it beyond conjecture. I do believe it was never a doubt that Dorothy and Joyce had feelings for each other—that Walky recognized Joyce really had it down bad for Dorothy. I think the rub is that Walky at least hoped Dorothy would have more respect for their relationship/friendship or at minimum, there would be more of a conversation outside of happily being dragged away before finishing a salient point. To try to get him to cheat on Lucy, to unconsciously note that she can just do things (he took it as their relationship) where no one is hurt because it doesn’t matter… The breakup (not the why but the how) might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Joyce and Walky’s relationship of friendship must be built on all that antagonism, at least from his point of view to still call her a friend. It’s something he would have done if the shoe was on the other foot so…Maybe no hard feelings there so much.

Ragtime

"knob"? Picking up some lingo from Mrs. Dr. Benjamin Who are we Walky?

DramaQueen

Of course Amber’s self-recrimination is rather over the top. Everyone in their entire friend circle could similarly blame themselves especially Billy and even Becky. Walky could well get a dozen more girlfriends, true, if he snaps out of it.

Andrea Andrew

Booster probably knows Amber’s injured and needs Walky.

Ragtime

Technically that could be Jacob no?

Andrea Andrew

I just realized. Wally’s basically Finn, Dorothy is Bonney, Joyce is Marceline, Lucy is Flame Princess, and Amber is Huntress Wizard (and she probably smells like fungus right now).

Smoochie

Or she greased the sliding hinge—all depends on what that closet it built like

DramaQueen

I’m pretty sure Walky knew he shouldn’t have rebounded with Dorothy in her clearly volatile state, and right after Lucy broke his heart and forced him to have a crisis of confidence. Lucy was a huge disaster for him. I doubt he blames any of the girls. This seems like more of the shame-spiral he got from wishing he could protect everyone in his life from his horrible mom.

DramaQueen

Maybe he’s right to think he needs to recover and grow up a bit before falling in accidental-like with yet another girl.

Smoochie

….Does that make Hank like…Simon in this equation?

HenryVolt

Given her track record with how she fucked up her own relationships/love interests so far especially the last one before this I say it's debatable to say Joyce's a better partner.

Irene Knapp

Walky shows good insight :)

Mariah

this metaphor also works for the legend of korra though walky dated joyce in another timeline its still two of his exes dating each other.

HenryVolt

I find that debatable, especially since they lasted longer than him with Lucy.

GundamBradley

IRL time, maybe, but in-universe? I don't know that that's the case, he was with Lucy for a few weeks I think. It's more that they never officially put any terms on it, seemingly by design.

Sajuuk-Khar

He came around on Jason after the math tutoring arc!

Tessea

So out of all the people feeling guilty about the whole situation, _Walky_ is the only one that gets that it's not anyone else at fault. Good for him!

ArdieBea

I'm not at all surprised that Walky considers Joyce a friend. Even before Dorothy super-glued them together they consistently hung out together. They're part of each other's lives with a snarky, bantering relationship that Joyce previously enjoyed with her brothers and Walky previously enjoyed with Billifer.

HenryVolt

With Lucy they got together and lasted a little more than a week. With Amber, a rocky start but at first but after the kid napping a couple of weeks I think.

Heatth

Yeah, I think people over focus on their bickering to the point of forgetting Walky and Joyce started hanging out before either met Dorothy. They aren't each other favorite person or anything, but they are casual friends who hang out between classes.

Heatth

I always find fun when Walky is more mature than expected. He is a childish dude, but he is more perceptive than folks give him credit for.

Shane Wegner

Raidah’s basically plotting world domination and he still humored them with a lunch (partly so he could obliquely dunk on Billie’s thirst to be accepted into the silly little club the whole time).

Shane Wegner

I wonder if Booster would be so cavalier if they knew how injured Amber is right now.

Smoochie

I like Booster as a character—but I don’t think I want to know the answer to that. Their fascination with Amber straddles the line of ‘possible relationship’ and ‘senior thesis’.

Terra Bruder

Joyce and Dorothy were *always*married. Willis did fuck-all.

Harold

@Seth Aaron Hershman: Then Booster's clever plan to get Amber for themselves is working

Jennifer Novelli

Seriously, are none of these characters mad at Joyce?

Empress of Robots

Unlike the main site comments section, Walky has been paying attention the last 15 years.

Empress of Robots

I think "Bet I could squeeze another in" is probably the title of Joyce and Dorothy's sex tape...

Harold

A lot of people are reacting with surprise to Walky referring to Joyce as his friend, not just after the Sunday AHHH-HA but in general. But they *are* friends, and it goes both ways. Yes, they have a unique knack for pushing each other's buttons and getting under each other's skin like no one else (although in Joyce's case, Dina definitely comes close), but deep down they do value each other, even if both would probably rather die than admit that directly to each other's faces. Remember that when Joyce and Becky were in LaPorte, Joyce included Walky in her list of reasons why she would rather go straight back to school than to her house (https://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-6/03-when-god-closes-the-door/scared/). And she's *always* included him in gatherings (the dorm party, the birthday party for Becky's mom) reserved for those few people she trusts and with whom she feels comfortable. At its heart, DoA is about a chosen family, and Joyce and Walky have both chosen to be part of it, visible itchy warts and all.

Andrea Andrew

Yeah, Smochie. I wonder who Hank’s Betty is or will be. Carol is no good for Betty.

Andrea Andrew

It’s weird how everyone brushed his relationship with Lucy aside because he never said I love you, and they said Dorothy was always the one he never got over. If we’re to take an honest look there, it makes sense (even if it was too soon). He also quickly said I love you to Dorothy, and sadly, his lingering feelings for Dorothy affected his relationship with Amber as well. But to Walky, saying I love you is what brought him misery and chased Dorothy away, so when he finds the “perfect girl” for them, he doesn’t want to repeat his “mistake”.

Dmitri0240

She ended a weeks-long relationship with one person, began a new relationship with another, and there was a few hours of overlap. As far as young adult social scandals go, that's honestly pretty trivial. The common idea that she would (or should) be permanently ostracized from her entire social circle for this transgression always felt disproportionate and unrealistic to me.

Sydney Ashcraft

And they don't even know about Amazi-girl, do they?

tifani

I think you kind of have to accept it as an inevitability at this point. Like I am no longer into Dorothy/Joyce (to be fair I barely ever was) which makes the comics and comment section not the most fun for me personally lately but I accept that the couple will continue to exist (and be shoved down my throat). It helps that they’re not the reason I’m reading. TLDR: resistance is futile. Amber/Walky are gonna happen.

tifani

Joe kicked the door down.

Astariel

They know she's plural, but I don't think they know the details.

Logibear

I'm of the opinion that if the people getting dumped aren't angry about the situation then no-one else really has a right to be. Joe spoke his truth, and we're still in the middle of hearing Walky's which seems like he's hurt but understanding.

Maude Reads Things

It's easy for people to forget because they bring out the 'immature toddler' in each other.

Maude Reads Things

I mean, hey, if you put it like that Amber might just dump you for the bit. Just for a minute though

Mariah

fine by me the comments being mad at them was enough I don't need "Burn the HARLOT" energy in my webcomics.

EnterTheHero

That's how you know they're friends.
