That's Dina in the background there, eating cereal.  But this'd be the second time in this storyline I'd cut to Dina for the final panel to squeeze out a gag, and I decided, nope, that's a crutch.  FINISH THE STRIP, YOU.

These are my favorite parts of Patreon. Getting to see the process.

I DO love the lowkey ongoing plot of Dina witnessing firsthand just how truly weird mammals are. But I also love to see Joe spell out just what his problems are, so I like the final version better.

Bagge

Agreed! That's a really cool thing to follow. It becomes sort of an alternate cut to the one we see in the final strips. What if the camera had focused on Dina rather than Joe.

Honestly, I assume Dina isn't actually there, canonically. It wasn't too long ago we'd established her at Target, and that's kind of a walk. That's another reason I ditched the strip, 'cuz it'd be too close to her being in two places at once.

Bagge

Fair enough. Then it becomes an alternate universe thing. On the other hand, if we assume that Dina did not linger for long in the discussion about dinosaur taxonomy... wait, what am I saying?

I'm not even looking at it as alternate universe stuff. It's good seeing Willis starting to go one way, then deciding he needed to go another way. One of my wife's biggest problems in her writing is she gets too attached to plot points that cause her problems later down the line. It's not a retcon if it's all one self-contained work that people only see once it's done. One project got completely abandoned because she couldn't prune out the bits that no longer worked and develop the parts that did.

While I know the final version is better for story, I prefer the Dina final panel oh so much more :c

Yeah, agree. You definitely HAVE to use the Dina-eating-cereal bit somewhere, would love to see a completed version of it. (You don't have to do anything, do your thing, dude.)
