The little puffs of dust behind Carla's skates: we know that Carla is usually on skates, but we might not have noticed the wheels at this scale, nor might we have gathered that she's skating quickly even though she's carrying a huge heavy box. Double-duty strip: Becky's enthusiasm for discussing girl-hotness with Joyce in in gear, and we are reminded that the cops smashed Carla's old screen. And both strip-duties are discharged against the background duty of getting Joyce and Becky to biology class. I've been re-reading DoA from the beginning, and it's very noticeable how much Willis gets out of the various walks and rides the characters undertake. The walks often advance the plot as much as they give an excuse to throw various combinations of characters together. For example, consider Jacob meeting Lucy while Sarah is along on one of the walks. This comic has enough cross-bracing in its structure to withstand strong winds.

transphobia and transmisogyny aren't the same thing! plenty of people are supportive of trans people but still do transmisogynistic things. like, becky absolutely considers carla a real woman! but i think especially in light of how she's been having hangups about potentially losing her lesbian identity in the latest chapters, i could see her anxiety about that leading to a relationship-ending microaggression, because the second she vocalizes 'am i less of a lesbian for dating a trans girl', it's over and carla'd have good reason to leave. it's not like it'd be the first time becky's self-destructed a relationship because The Mind Demons got to her!

@Queen: Honestly (and I know I’m in the minority here) I think in that hypothetical Carla is less at fault than Dina in the current situation!!! (Also yeah that scenario absolutely tracks, I can unfortunately see it unfolding, and also Becky is super not sex-repulsed and would not be able to deal with Carla’s intense aversion to it)
