Minzoku Bokumetsu

"The line goes on fer a while, even though it's just her"

Megh

alice looks like she's about to explode with lesbianism in that last panel hot honestly

jafortee

hold the line, love isn’t always on time

tifani

Marcie/Sal endgame, I’m rooting for it.

C

"Ah'm not gay, but if Ah were, Marcie's got dibs."

Empress of Robots

Well hopefully Asma understands what happened with bowling now...

Railway Series Book Club

this is one crowded karaoke room jeez okay becky you gotta lock in and get some drunken makeouts with alice

Logibear

"It looks like she was just simulating spanking something?" "Did it now? Huh, that's odd"

Ragtime

This karaoke will contain all the sapphics (and Sal) before too long

tifani

Statistically not that unlikely given the company you keep Sal.

Harold

Alice, in her head: GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL

Harold

Jennifer: "...and ME"

Lisa

It's incredibly sweet of Sal to tell Marcie that Marcie would be Sal's first pick if Sal were into women. Also kind of an interesting contrast with the Joyce/Becky ship that wasn't.

Harold

So Becky ends up drinking anyway. Wonder if Ruth will notice. ("Fuck. I did this for nothing.")

Lazuli

salcie

AE Gonzalez

Marcie doing her Yoda impersonation.

Lisa

I also love that Marcie's like, "Yeah, I ship that."

KiasyonSFM

Ah Marcie, I love you 😂😂

Corronchilejano

Can I just keep asking for more lesbians and they just keep showing up?

Lisa

I think it's less Yoda impersonation and more using ASL grammar when transliterating the ASL. (I'm still an ASL beginner, so I'm not the most reliable source, but other commenters have mentioned the same in previous comics.)

Andrea Andrew

Something tells me Alice, the polyamorous candidate, would be okay with sharing. She’s flirted with and hit on every woman there but Lucy and Marcie, who somehow materialized in the room.

Andrea Andrew

Damn; I guess on top of having a partner in Malaya, Marcie still likes Sal.

GundamBradley

Marcie's busting out her Gay Yoda, always a hit at parties.

Lazuli

so whats the odds on if jennifer is paying attention to the lyrics of good luck babe?

Amós Batista

By the big look Alice gave, a translation is not necessary.

Astariel

Damn, people just keep showing up here! You'd think this room would be beginning to get uncomfortably crowded. Good to see Sal and Marcie, though.

Astariel

I'm not much of a drinker, but I've been led to believe that there's a pretty big difference between having one beer and going out to get drunk. Since Becky probably won't be able to get any more, I'd imagine Ruth will be okay with it.

Lazuli

sal and her bi lifemate, marcie

Kelly (they-them)

I hate the way the patreon app is now. It ate the comment I was writing >:(

Dan Rabin

1. The panels with backgrounds get progressively wider as the colloquy involves 2, 3, then 4 characters. These panels form a basic Rule of Three structure, with Marcie providing the punch line. 2. There is such a thing as signing karaoke: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_singing . 3. I read Sal's "Ah gotta boyfriend" as her fending off hopeless interest early to avoid any misunderstanding; I read Alice's "...interesting" remark as willfully misinterpreting Sal's statement. 4. It is now well-established that Alice is in cast-a-wide-net mode. I have no idea what this might be setting up, but I don't think it's going to make Jennifer jealous unless it's Free Clue Night at the karaoke bar.

Fart Captor

AAAAHHHHHH those two are so adorable Sal please stay in this room until you absorb the gay via osmosis

Edwin I Callahan

I think is Alice is a great character, almost giddy about flirting and romance, yet she seems to have some depth I also get a sense she’s pretty bright as well.

Dan Rabin

The party in Amber and Dina's room had *15* people in attendance.

Michael Flannagan

Joyce looks around in confusion. "How'd I get here?"

Tessea

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down Letting the days go by, water flowing underground Into the blue again, after the money's gone Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Sajuuk-Khar

Becky it’s time for Tactical Lesbian Action

Sajuuk-Khar

Alice is suddenly made aware that while she has been pining after one particular dish, a buffet has been assembled

Zesstra

I love the fact that Alice is sometimes not the most observant character but when it comes to relationship and sexuality drama she is *dialled in*.

Simon Magid

What's so unlikely about that? Isn't this DoA? o.O

Sajuuk-Khar

so THAT’S what that “All You Can Eat” sign on the karaoke room door was about

Sajuuk-Khar

and in the case of Marcie I think she’s too honkers-stunned to immediately flirt but she’s GONNA

Sajuuk-Khar

Jennifer, alas, is spending all her clues on “Pissy Ruth Related Bullshit”

Katrina Marie Paton

At this rate Alice is going to want to hook up with everyone in the room BUT Asma. Poor Asma.

Lea

RE your #4: I agree your postulated "cast-a-wide-net" mode is a definite possibility. I do wonder if Alice's notes have been less a reflection of "cast-a-wide-net" and more of intrigue-and-interest at the salaciousness of Billifer's friend group's ourobourous smoochy group. Alice seemed to be sincerely greeting Sal in an appropriate friendly way, and Sal seemed to interpret that as a possible expression of romantic/sexual interest. So she proactively clarified for Alice. In a way that's positioning the "incompatibility" in herself ("The problem is me, I have a boyfriend") to spare Alice from potentially considering the "incompatibility" because of something mismatched between the both of them. Perhaps on some level, she's trying to spare Alice's feelings, but incredibly subtle so she can keep her cred.

Inquiring Raven

Salca? Pronounced like salsa? For the spiciness. Maybe?

Sky Starlight

People who make Pokemon references do seem to be Sal's type lately

T Campbell

Her lesbianism goes hand in hand with her dramasexuality. This comic is her natural environment.

Andrew

Daisy, tomorrow: “how did I not hear about this!”

Mark Thompson

Marcie knows that sharing is caring 😁

Harold

@Astariel: Think about how many people ended up at the Not-a-Keg party. This karaoke room is undoubtedly larger than an IU dorm room, so the entire DoA cast could very well end up in here.

Onyx

Yay Sal and Marcie :)

Packy Anderson

Also, if she gets drunk, it will not be Ruth who got her that way. Plausible denyability.

Harold

@Lea: I'm pretty sure Sal interpreted Alice's greeting accurately. The fact that "HI, SAL" is rendered in boldface indicates that her tone is very likely along the lines of "HELLO PERSON I JUST MET I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THIS STRAW WITH YOUR COOCH PLEASETHANKYOU"

Jayne Lindgren

"They handed me a beer at the door." I like the implication that the karaoke people just took one look at Sal and thought she wanted/needed a beer. I hope this is the beginning of a running joke where whenever Sal shows up someplace, *someone* tries to hand her alcohol because she just gives off that aura.

Harold

@Jayne Lindgren: I'm pretty sure it already *is* a running gag. I distinctly remember a similar scene years ago with Sal getting automatic alcohol.

Edwin I Callahan

This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no fooling around. This ain’t no Mudclub, or CBGB’s, I ain’t got time for it now.

Tessea

To more I see of Marcie and Alice, the more I like them! They're both such fun characters!

Michael Flannagan

I get the impression my comment is an unintentional song lyric?

Harold

@Michael Flannagan: "Well... how did I get here?" is a key line from Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime," which coincidentally was just referenced here a couple of strips ago. Tessea's reply is from the same song, and Edwin's is from another TH song, "Life During Wartime."

Michael Flannagan

Ha. Total accident. I was just making a joke about Sal's comment about being gay magically summoning Joyce.

Harold

Joyce: "Sal! Welcome to our ranks!" Sal: "Ah wasn't sayin' Ah *was*-- Christ, there go those damn dogs again."

Tessea

It works both ways since it's very likely a selection for Karaoke. :D

Maude Reads Things

Glad Sal's accepted the fate that awaits her if and when I get back to writing DoA fanfiction. Maybe I'll even have Marcie share with Danny. I know, I know, Sal doesn't 'do throuples' but shhhhhh I like her and Danny too much

Tessea

*looks at the next strip* Well you called that one! :D

Maude Reads Things

Well, in fairness, Joyce WAS sure that if she was gay for anyone it'd be Becky. Then, well....that isn't what happened

Tessea

Maybe not 'okay', but likely more tolerant of it.

Lisa

She was? I remember a comic where she was like "If I were gay for anyone, it would be...." and then Mike gestured to Sal, and Joyce started (metaphorically) drooling. Edit: Found it: https://www.dumbingofage.com/comic/foranybody/. I was never completely sure if that's what Joyce was about to say or not, but she didn't deny it.
