IT IS TIME

First, check below to see if the character you want to nominate for June 2018's bonus strip has already been nominated.

If so, "heart" them! If you don't see them nominated below, nominate 'em!

I will delete duplicate character nominations. If I removed your nomination, please go find the name elsewhere and "heart" it.

Please do not nominate or "heart" more than one character.

Yuri won last month's vote, so no votes for her this month, please! Also, let's try to limit ourselves to characters who have, y'know, actually appeared in the strip and/or have a name. In other words: no me, no Ninja Rick.

please to enjoy

OK, this time I've got to ask: why this "do not nominate or 'heart' more than one" rule? It's more work for the pollster, and it doesn't achieve anything except make the poll actually less fair. The "first past the post" rule may be the more common voting system, but it's arguably one of the worst. One of the well known effects is, it punishes honest voting — in that, if my favorite is getting fewer votes, and doesn't seem to have a chance, I'm already discouraged to vote at all. And if a candidate I really don't like seems to have a chance to win, I may be tempted to vote for a candidate I don't actually like so much, just to make sure the other doesn't make it. That's not a very good way to see who's most popular. I think it would make much more sense to let everyone vote for as many candidate they want — the system already makes it impossible to like a comment more than once, so that's perfect. This "vote for as many candidate you want" rule is called "Approval voting", and it's actually one of the best voting systems according to experts. Of course this is not a very serious vote, so I suppose it's not such a big deal — we're not, like, electing the next president or anything... But since approval voting would be both fair and easy to implement compared to the current system... Why not? (For more detail on voting system, I would recommend Nicky Case's To build a better ballot https://ncase.me/ballot/ as well as this video on approval voting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db6Syys2fmE )

(I apologize if this point has already been raised multiple times...)

We have to ask ourselves - have we really been good enough to deserve that awesomeness?

J.

No. But we'll never be good enough, so why worry about meeting an impossible standard?
