Poor Jocelyne in panel 1-2. Full out panic mode. Cover blown? Time to flee? Phew, not yet. now it's time for DAD COMICS!

Maude Reads Things

Thank God that Hank grew up in a time where men with longer hair wasn't THAT unusual (for a certain value of 'longer').

Packy Anderson

GOOD DAD COMICS, not comics about bad dads.

Packy Anderson

I'm trying to image Hank with a mullet. "God-fearing up front, party in the back!"

Bonnie Fiddis

A surprisingly wholesome family bonding scene. Part of me feels that her dad would be more accepting than her mom would be though.

C.T. Phipps

"I think you'd look good with a beard too!"

Chris King

I’m trying to forget that I had one back then! These days my hair is more like Hank’s than I should admit...

R. Francis Smith

I had one, too, but it was mostly because the front and sides of my hair go clown hair instead of long if I let it grow. The back was curly as hell also but anyway let's just move on. Hair now: negligible

emmavoid

Jocelyne is wonderful and valid and I can't wait for her to get to be herself full time 💜💜💜

Simon Magid

there is way too much cholesterol in broccoli, Hank, what are you doing

Riley R.

That looks like celery to me?

Jen

Looks like celery to me too

George

You know what would be interesting? If Hank already knows, or at least suspects, about Jocelyne being trans. IIRC, her writings are under her chosen name, so he might have worked it out. And he probably doesn't fully understand why his "son" would be this way, but he still loves her. (I know it's not particularly likely. But hey, that's what head canons are for.)

SSPeanutButter

Jocelyn is the best. Along with Lucy and Carla. Oh, and also Dina... Might as well add Becky in there too.

SSPeanutButter

Oh and Leslie. I can't believe I left Leslie so far down the list.

Nina

Unexpected comments on the tiny little changes you've dared to make in your life are just the 'BEST', aren't they >n>

T Campbell

Some of us get mad when people don't notice the changes we've made, though. If there's a simple rule here, I don't know it.

Simon Magid

Three nitpickers arguing what _kind_ of greens it is and not one of them noticing the disparity between the complaint and the actual not very high content of cholesterol in bollocking vegetables. Sigh.

Regalli

Yeah, but it’s definitely loaded here because it’s tied up in Jocelyne being trans and Hank not knowing, not being someone who would’ve been supportive when she was growing up, and still being an unknown now. (And Jocelyne may not know about all Hank’s character development, we don’t know how often she and Joyce talk.) So she probably is in fact on edge here.

Mango

Not sure I understand your intent tbh, his complaint is exactly why he has to snack on a celery stick and not, I dunno, a donut or something.

Michael Schmidt

Humor is not a matter of intent, but effect.

Lateral

not... that good

Krista Benson

All of my headcannons are ones where trans folx are more supported than we can expect to be

Krista Benson

Dream the world you want to exist, I guess?

Daniel Adams

Yay father/ daughter bonding! Just give Hank time, he’ll probably figure out what’s up on his own, he might even be helpful about it by then.

Bagge

"Not comics about bad dads." is not a perfectly honest description of Dumbing of Age.

Bagge

"Dad... I have something to tell you..." "MY SON IS A HIPPIE????" "I'm not a hippie. I'm a girl." "Phew, I was worried there for a moment. Wait-a-moment. Are you a girl-hippie?" "No, just an ordinary girl." "That's great news. Come on, so... daughter. I will tell all about my bowel movements." "...great?"

Bagge

Heh, I remember when my dad took me aside for the talk... about thinning hair. It was very heartwarming.

Dean Reilly

Baldness comes from the father's side. Hank, you sit on a throne of LIES.

David H. Adler

I just want to point out that, if I'm any indication, the idea that male pattern baldness is determined by your maternal line is GARBAGE.

Mango

...I am still lost. Please help explain!

Doc Brown

Determined by, no. But she has a 50/50 shot at getting her mom's hair genes over her dad's.

Dana

Two counter-arguments: 1. the genes largely responsible for baldness are on the X chromosome, and you only get one of those from your dad if you're a girl. 2. My balding head.

C.T. Phipps

Highly unlikely but I'd prefer it to be that way. Maybe perhaps the discovery Hank had a sibling who was that was never mentioned but he never disliked (i.e. Hank is Joyce as an adult).
