I feel like Joyce is a bit cold to Lucy still because Lucy represents how Joyce could’ve been more normal - in Joyce’s eyes. That and comedically bad timing.

As I predicted, I'm a little saddened by the loss of Joyce's church attendance, because despite her background, the Joyce of Joyce and Walky represented the kind of Christian I grew up with who seems sadly underrepresented in modern media and the news: one who chose the parts of the doctrine that elevated kindness even as she kicked away the backward parts. But I guess wer have Lucy for that now. I'm a lot more concerned about Becky's choice to skip and go on a shopping spree; Becky's relationship with God means a lot more to her at this point, and her relationship with Robin is likely to be a lot less stable. OTOH, at least it means Joyce is spared the chore of faking it for Becky's sake, and she can make a more conscious choice than merely oversleeping.

As much as I’m saddened by it too, steadfast faith in the face of her church family being rotten and her doctrine teaching her to hate Becky’s action would not lend itself to an interesting character. There’s still Sierra and Jacob as other churchgoers too, not to mention Agatha attending her Mormon church.
