At least when I went to IU, they had storage for all the bed frames and mattresses. They didn't stay in the room all year. On the first day, you grab 'em off the lawn. So presumably, Dina would have just gotten them back into storage.

(I assume it's managed slightly different now, if only because photos of the current beds look like actual sturdy furnature, while the beds from my time were, like, two-by-fours fastened together with twine.)

Dina has a very Marie Kondo approach to interior design. Things that spark with joy: Dinosaurs, Becky, Dinosaurs given by Becky. Things that don't spark with joy: Beds-that-stand-in-the-way-for-dinosaurs, butthole-dads-that-look-like-toes.

Well, when I went, they had an option of paying 1.5x to 3x the normal rate if you wanted your double-/triple-occupancy room as a single (depending on the dorm), so I ended up having an extra bed in mine. Luckily, they stacked so you could make a bunk bed to save space (I really didn't want to ever talk to the RD or RAs ever, and luckily we never had meetings so I didn't have to until I got written up for something)
