On repeat viewing, it seems that Malaya could be looking in the direction of Sal & Co., noticing that Sal Has Friends. Malaya certainly isn't looking at Marcie, and the indoor scene is colored as if seen through the glass from a twilit exterior. Or maybe this is all too obvious to note.

No, Malaya's just looking away, in no particular direction. Sal is right behind them, you can see her outline in the third panel right next to Marcie.
