For me, yeah this would obviously be a shitty thing to do in real life, but in the fiction of the comic this feels more like a beat of silly cartoon hijinks at the end of the chapter, and not a serious character moment. Like how Galasso would clearly be a monstrous employer irl but it's okay to laugh because he's a fictional character.
