I generally assume that she has some vision problems severe enough to leave her legally blind without her glasses. Given the stuff she does, she's clearly not legally blind with them. Another possibility would be that she's super-sensitive to light, especially certain spectra, so her extra-dark shades have a particular resulting hue.

Coloured gels or lenses can be used to help people with Irlen Syndrome with reading, so that may be another possibility.

This absolutely warms my heart. My bf and I are both trans, and one or both of us will have days when it takes a while to find something we're comfortable in because dysphoria's a bitch. I relate hard to Malaya here — that whole process of standing in front of the mirror, trying things on because nothing seems to fit today is incredibly frustrating. And I also relate to Marcie because nothing makes me and my bf swoon more @ the other than seeing them in that one look that really suits them. It's like, it could just be everyday clothes, but if you feel good in them, if you really feel like you've managed to for once capture your gender expression perfectly, it's as if you're glowing, and someone who loves you will see that right away.
