So, is Joyce going to make a move on Dorothy, and she's trying to lighten the blow to Becky, given that she rejected Becky earlier? I'm having trouble thinking of what else she could mean. Maybe she's looking to set boundaries with friends who are forcing too much unsolicited help on her?

In a perfect world, this lovely moment of undying (pun partially intended) friendship would be immediately followed by Joyce and Becky revealing their respective secrets to each other. For all we know, this may be what happens in the next strip. But as has often been said, there's a reason this comic ain't called Smarting of Age.

NOT EVEN AS A JOKE WILLIS. But this conversation is starting well so I'm hoping it'll continue to go well

Joyce's Autism Secret has now been upstaged by Joyce's Joe Secret.

I’d say this is more angling towards the atheism reveal than autism reveal. Going in chronological order of reinventions makes sense, I guess?

Harold

Becky already knows about Joyce's atheism - she overheard Joyce's mocking (largely self-mocking) conversation with Liz, and it hurt her deeply. (But as this strip amply demonstrates, Becky's love for Joyce > her feelings about the changes Joyce is experiencing.)
