As someone who REALLY adored the brief Joyce/Joe in the old comics, I've been heartily enjoying their dynamic in DOA 💖

BBCC

Joe, ya should've listened to Shrek.

Sajuuk-Khar

Joyce’s little smile aaaaaa

Kelly (they-them)

For whatever reason, this makes me think of Dr. Cox's, "People are bastard-coated bastards with a bastard center"

Bagge

Yes, yes, it's a pretty metaphor. Now talk more about feelings

Machalt

I think Joyce was dipping around the question because she doesn't really like Joe, romantically. She thinks he's hot, sure, but that's not the same, I think. She does like him as a friend though, that's pretty clear.

Don’t make a Chuck McGill mistake here, people.

Gloomlie

Same!! Their relationship felt not fully explored so I’m glad we’re seeing at least some of that now

This is so cute... I love Joe/Joyce. I love the way that Joyce is the only one who tries to see through to the real Joe and vice versa. So good.

It’s possible she doesn’t, or it’s possible it’s some variation on that, like she simply doesn’t know how. Joyce would have a hard time admitting she actively feels romantically towards someone even if she did, due in some part to her upbringing probably not actively encouraging romantic feelings as a natural thing that happens between people. Maybe as something that magically appears AFTER marriage, or a vague feeling people get when they realize they both like Christ the same amount. And it’s doubtful her parents modeled much romance, it seems like they got increasingly distant. And then add in the twist factor of probable neuro-atypicality, and it’s hard to say if Joyce will experience exactly what we might recognize as neurotypical romance. (More like, say, Danny and Sal.) Maybe more like Dina and Becky? Sometimes science, maybe not extremely lovey-dovey, but mutual like and sometimes pants euphoria? Joyce likes it enough to try whatever it is thus far, that’s something. I guess what I’m driving at is it might not be the total absence of romance, just that a Joyce experiences romance differently enough not to register on standard Romance Radar. Joe seems ok to go along with that thus far.

Joe: “I know my inner (and outer) jacked-ness is above your mere mud-metaphors.”

I love these two goofballs and their friendship. I don’t even care if they become a couple or not. They are just so cute together and their banter gives me life. <3
