They really are, yes. Joyce was always visibly a good people, just blurred a lot from her incredibly unhealthy upbringing. Joe... it was a lot harder to tell from him. Probably because he was so determinedly burying it, hell bent on shielding himself behind massive fortifications made from toxic masculinity. Thankfully they eroded under the onslaught of time and his own inability to accept living a lie. I wonder what made him erect those fortifications in the first place. I strongly suspect his father of being the major contributing factor.

This is going in the best way. I've waited for this for a long time. We'll see how long it lasts, but they both have elements of their backgrounds that they are... ashamed of, I guess? But that when cleaned and restored to their proper places can become strengths, and I think they each set a good example for the others in those regards. I hope so, anyway.
