I think the last word is meant to be interrogatory to Malaya rather than Danny. The current wording treats Danny's rebuff as a given if Malaya asked to get in his pants. Your suggestion changes the meaning so Malaya asking to get in his pants is the given and whether Danny rebuffed or not is the conditional.
