Lucy has a different flavor of hangup from Joyce. She KNOWS these motions and "rules" are nothing but a "fig leaf", she just really believes in following the "forms". Joyce would be having a crisis about this sort of thing (if she believed in "3 dates", which she doesn't), Lucy doesn't want to have to come up with another excuse, she's on auto-pilot and Danny keeps making her have to stop and think. She doesn't much want to think and stopping isn't high on the list either.
