Given the parents are apparently (hehe) dropping in unannounced, it shouldn’t be surprising if people had plans. I mean yes said plans are probably not so immutable that they couldn’t be bent to include getting a free lunch from the people who are probably paying thousands of dollars a semester for your education, but sending a text is still basic courtesy and takes seconds to do. Either parent could have done it but didn’t if both Sal and Walky are surprised. Edit: I guess this in-person meet up is the text, maybe they’re dropping by to meet their dean friends or whatever. The kids like the texts these days! It helps add more lead time! The subtext(hehe) is going through the motions that they aren’t just kids who are expected to drop what they are doing and come to lunch when mommy and daddy call Lunch Time. Even if they are kinda still kids with knowable class schedules who don’t pay for their own food and housing just yet. The transition to adulthood is weird.

ooooof poor Sal. Also, Linda isn't happy Walky is dating someone who is not White.

Also, Walky, texts exist - you coulda given Sal a heads up!

Onyx

Linda had told Walky a "dozen times" they were coming, he just didn't tell Sal.
