I love the acting and directing here: Becky gets smilier as Ruth gets frownier and scowlier and head-tiltier as she tries to bore into Becky's brain with her R.A. laser eyes. The writing has set up this near-perfect impasse: Becky could be guarding Dorothy's secret by pretending not to know it, or she could be pumping Ruth for the gossip by truthfully denying that she's in on the secret. Becky's comment on Dorothy in the previous strip signals that she still buys into the Old Dorothy mystique, and Ruth must be taking that remark into account. On the other hand, Becky will work to Dorothy's benefit, whatever she says, and whatever she believes—but Ruth must possibly betray a confidence to enlist Becky's help. All very balanced, and very DoA.
