Jesus tap dancing Christ, Carol learn to cut your losses and do what you've always done, shop around for a new church you can latch onto to support your bigotry without all the emotional and financial baggage. Well that relies on the theory that Carols kids somehow have any claim to Carol's house while she's still alive, doesn't it? When my grandfather started talking to his Dad about taking over the farm when he was older my great-grandfather asked him where he was going to get the money to buy it. Don't see why that wouldn't apply here.

I think "God" is and always has been her own internal voice. In this case, she decided that selling the house is pious and a big gesture to get into gods good graces, so she decides that God must have told her to do it. She doesn't have to justify it anymore, she's passed the buck skyward
