Carla herself says it’s just about getting attention, and I’m ok with taking that at exactly face value for now. A major reason- I’m not ready to see it as genuine interest yet, because Carla hasn’t asked even one question about what Charlie likes, or who she is or what her various qualities are, even though Booster has a lifetime of such knowledge and a knack for understanding people. Carla is a bit Carla-absorbed, but who knows, maybe this is the first baby leaf of becoming curious about others sprouting up. Also thanks to Booster for mentioning the word “transactional”. That word was clattering around my head yesterday and I didn’t post. I felt a bit of sympathy for Carla that the only tool in her toolbox from her upbringing was “bribe others with Xbox”.

I not at all fond of Carla as a character, after trying hard. That said, this might be the most I’ve liked Carla in a strip ever.
