NOTE: in this CYOA the patrons play the role of the members of the APEX, a shadowy organization that is at the top of the command chain of this world's secret services.

The members of the APEX can issue any orders to the agents they please ,whether they obey or not is up to them.

Of course, there is a way for your orders to be a bit more convincing, but we'll get to that next update.

Also a disclaimer: to avoid burning myself out i'll  pick  just a few comments per update. I'll try to include everyone as best as i can, but please don't expect EVERY comment to end up in an update

thank you in advance guys, and let's give this a try! hope you have fun!

PK Persona

So excited to be here at the start of this story! Take care though too, we all wish you the best :)

Robert Smith

I think the pub and bar is obviously the first port of call- get rumours, meet the locals... maybe get a drink or two to ingratiate the two investigators to the locals :)

cherrydad

Scope out information at the bar, see if there's any leads there.

Muku

APEX: We suggest heading to the Manmal retail store first, it's a good place to start your investigation and get some supplies. We'll be sure to keep in touch.

AnotherMeekOne

This CYOA looks super promising and I can't wait to see where it goes I'll say going to the inn is probably a good idea

Kageichi

We suggest you check out the local bar in town. Most citizens would be easy to find there, plus bartender's in a small town like this are well known for having plenty of information

Roselight Ivy

It may be prudent to check out the Cozy Hearth Inn. If Bellows was here in secret, he may have booked under a pseudonym. If he was here as himself; he may not have been expecting trouble. Either way; you'll need a base of operations.

Muku

Can't wait to see where this go's

DePanda

We suggest checking out the Inn. You can ask around for information on the missing people and have a place to stay for the night.

Alucardsamsun

Alright well I guess I'll ask both of them what they think of Mr. Bellows "I understand Mr. Theodore Bellows was an important part of both your lives, it would help our team if you could give us any information you can on him, how his mind works, what his goals were in your eyes, especially how he was with you personally on a intimate/intricate level of detail, so we can formulate a plan of action to finding him based on an informed image of his existence. Please do not spare any detail, we won't push but keep in mind everything said is confidential and won't be shared to the public. As this is a very serious and unusual case, we hope for the both of you to give your best statements on Mr. Bellows to your ability If we can put together both of your detailed descriptions of Mr. Theodore Bellows, we will be able to figure out his plan of action, catching up to him so he can assist you on the field, provided he is still able."

Robert Smith

Also if APEX agents are allowed to be... slightly flirty in their provision of operation instructions... mine is definitely gonna be trying to get Allister a lil hot under the collar, he's a cutie :)

Zolvira

our suggestion, dear investigators, is to head to the pub first, get a read of the townsfolk, if there's a dark underbelly to this town, the pub will most likely be the "mouth"

GuacoHexxRhey

Let’s go to the bar. The barkeep should have some juicy info!

Cid

Hmm... interesting start, I was expecting the voices to be the supernatural element but making us a physical entity opens different possibilities. I want the duo to head to the bar, it’s the best place to get information. I also want to ask Agent Bellows for his insight on what he believes happened with this case.

Thecooliest

We need you to go make sure you get a room at the cozy hearth inn. You maybe be staying where for quite a while and we'd like you two to get...... comfortable

Lee Evergreen

Why dont we start by seeing how well you two perform on individual investigations. Agent Frank we suggest you head to the bar and try to dig up any information you can. Your amicable nature may get you in good with the locals. Agent Allister, head to the Inn to get yourselves lodging and investigate whether or not Mr Barrows was staying there.

Hon3ybazzer

You agents should go to the Cozy Hearth Inn to see if Otis left any evidence of his motives or what clues He may have left to his intentions considering your knowledge and experience with agent Bellows.

Meanbeard

Looks like a good start to his nice tale.

Crimson Claw

"Agent Bellows. Please confirm your commitment to this case by huffing your armpits for 30 seconds and rating the smell. Be as intimate with the details as possible. If you have concerns with the nature of this order; be aware it is a test related to your species and the possible nature of the supernatural happenstances in this town. Warn us immediately if they smell like brownies, this is not a joke."

Shiny Skunk

Oh man I love a microchip as mind control flavor. I’m so ready. Definitely think the bar is the first place to go.

Mr.Flannel

"Agent bellows, Agent Carver i would recommend going to the general store to get a feel of the folk that resides in this town and ask them if anything strange has happened recently. You may find valuable information there. "

innerDesign

"As you agents know. During any investigation 3 things are key. Setting up a base of operations, gathering Intel, and gathering supplies. Based on our Intel your best bet would be to set up your base of operations at the Inn. Do not disturb sign is a must. From there we suggest going to the retail store for supplies. Survey the shoppers and take note on species, gender, and what they get. Then get your supplies back to your room. From there the pub and bar. Always a good spot to listen in on conversations. Picking up rumors and hints. This would be our strategy. Specifically planned out by one of our.. more versatile investigators.. good luck you two."

Fe5ter

Agents, before setting up base of operations at The Inn check your room for any wires or hidden cameras especially in the bathroom. Agent Frank make use of a blacklight and luminol from your kit to scan the room for any traces of blood. Agent Allister burn sage and sticklewort in the room, wards off any supernatural surveillance or hexes.

NethGooRat

I like this format! It seems really promising! lets go with the inn.

Nex Canis

Agents, it must have been a long trip and you must be hungry. Why not go to the Bolts Dynamic Diner and get something to eat? I'm sure you'd find some of the locals there as well to extract some information from.

Bearlynewgaymer

Is frank an animal crossing character with the snort ending each line of conversation lol

move along nothing to see here

Good call on limiting the comments to the ones that would advance the plot the most. I'm not 100% convinced you were sleeping with the length of monster smash updates on top of all the other projects you had your hands in.

move along nothing to see here

Agents, the higher-ups have arranged for reservations at the town's inn for the duration of your investigation.

WorgenRouge

FRANK: Go to the pub and gorge yourself on food and drink. You need to get full and drunk and bigger. It’s crucial to the case.

MdHatter

I came in late for the last CYOA, so I’m happy to be at the start of this one. Can’t wait to flex my influence as member of APEX.

Taikowolf

Interesting start. Can't wait to see how all this plays out~ Also, good idea in selecting a few comments to go off of.

Newt

I'll abstain. Also yeah, please just pick comments at random and try to tell a story you're happy with. I guarantee you we'll enjoy it even if this ends up being completely sfw.

Randastasius

I'll probably just spectate for now.

Kale Beans

Agents, set up shop at the inn. You two will need a homebase to work from. That being said, we want to keep the overhead on this project low, so we are authorizing only a single bedroom at this time.

Hinner

OFF: Yeah, the inn sounds like a good idea Agents: Stop at the inn, get a room and rest for a bit. You can use this to set up shop and maybe ask around there. How are your funds for this investigation like? Do you need financial help?

starmaker5000

Agents, the best thing to remember in this situation is that in a small town word travels fast, so try not to say or do anything too suspicious.

Rick

Before we start this case properly, let’s try to clear up some of that animosity between you two. Agent Carver , your belief that Agent Bellows is only here to sabotage you will only be detrimental to the investigation. Not everyone here is out to get you and you precious SNF, Allister. Even if this is a supernatural case, having someone more grounded like Frank might be more beneficial to you than you realize. And You Agent Bellows, right now, Allister is the only link to you have to find Otis Bellows. So you’re going have to be more receptive to his ways. This is going to be an unusual case and it’s going to take an unusual mind to crack it. The point is gentlemen, you both bring something to the table. From this point forward you will only have each other to rely on. So try acting more civil with each other.

Star Ringer

Sigh. I really want to be in on this. But I just lost my job and I'll be deactivating all my patreons after this month. I hope it goes well.

GenericDog

(if appropriate) Agent Carver. We have reasons to suspect the paranormal threats you face may have mind-altering properties. I expect your experience in the field will be a great asset. As you have noticed by now, our access to your M.A.D. allows us certain privileges over you. I believe this will be beneficial in your investigation if our suspicion holds true. Bear with us, as our ultimate objective is for you to succeed. Be on your guard, agents. We'll be observing and assisting you.

Crowbar

So exciting a new story x3 Whoof, are you certain you want to keep this level of quality going? Like, man, full color? I worry, this looks even tougher to draw than Monster Smash. But just like Monster Smash, the writing it half of the appeal and I am already engaged in this mystery... I want to find this Matt Hopper dude... hopefully completely corrupted by the occult and pleasured out of his mind <3 I get the impression we aren't supposed to make commands this update but if we are I vouch checking out the Diner, that is always the start of these mysteries... and that marshmallow of a bear needs more padding <3

Rodney Talon

edit-suggestion allows us to -listen in on your thoughts... and more- read you deeply given certain conditions -Our ultimate objective is for you to succeed, but some of my colleagues might want to test if your psyche is as soft and pliable as your physique.- Remove entirely. Its too much, too soon and you don't tell rats they are in a lab cage and sets up too much antagonism going forward. they already bicker "I anticipate that the paranormal threats you face may have similar mind-altering powers, so consider it training of sorts. Pardon us in advance." Our analysis suspects paranormal threats may be or have mind-altering aspects. Consider this insurance. But don't lose yourselves, be on your guard. We'll be supplying and observing as can.

Dark627

They both should check the factory. Might be clues there. First they should check in at the inn then go investigate.

GenericDog

I agree that it is indeed too soon and too much, I guess I am way too excited for the story to unfold. I'll write something more reassuring and watch as hijinks ensue. :) I was (and am) initially aiming to warn them after it is revealed how we can "be a bit more convincing", but you had me realize that what I wrote might be a bit too menacing to result in something fun. I wanted to be relatively straightforward with them, so I hope the edited version keeps my initial intention while alleviating the tension somewhat. What I wrote at first was what I thought was appropriate for the violation of privacy and free will to come (probably), but I guess the more villainous role is reserved for the paranormal entities. The Apex probably needs some pretense as you suggested, even if they/we turn out to be less than benevolent. Ugh, I'm so excited, I can't stop guessing about stuff. Thanks for the input, btw. You've added a whole new dimension to this for me <3

Newt

I Feel like trying to write out their only defining character dynamic in the first update is bad writing

Plowshare-Plague

Agents, First establish base at the inn. Search the room for devices. Due to the nature of your work and the assessed likelihood of supernatural activity in the area, finding materials such as ash and non-decorative stone is to be reported.

Yoked Coder

Make sure to backtrack to the first incident, we are to follow and uncover what happened to agent Bellows. Go to the Cozy Hearth Inn and request to stay in a room, then find a way to learn where Bellows stayed and search his room. Be covert, we do not know of whatever were dealing with, an organization or otherwise so best not to bring to much attention.
