I even had it marked on my calendar. Was just hiking in the forest and totally spaced on it. Maybe next time I can meet everyone on the live stream? Never done one before.

Are you familiar with the 1961 film “The Innocents”? It’s a classic with oodles of delicious, elegant terror. It is a devastatingly beautiful film, glorious black and white cinematography. A prim and perfect woman is hired to look after two orphaned children because their uncle does not want the responsibility. It is set in a huge mansion with sprawling lawns and is as creepy as you please. This movie genuinely scared me. The growing intensity of the relationship between this woman and the two mysterious children is a thrill. (There is a 2021 horror film with the same name but they are completely different stories. That one is also very good, but I think you would enjoy the 1961 film much like you did “Psycho.”)

The Criterion Collection describes “The Innocents” (1961) much better: “This genuinely frightening, exquisitely made supernatural gothic stars Deborah Kerr as an emotionally fragile governess who comes to suspect that there is something very, very wrong with her precocious new charges. A psychosexually intensified adaptation of Henry James’s classic The Turn of the Screw, cowritten by Truman Capote and directed by Jack Clayton, The Innocents is a triumph of narrative economy and technical expressiveness, from its chilling sound design to the stygian depths of its widescreen cinematography by Freddie Francis.”

I can’t believe I didn’t mention this: “The Others” is a spiritual successor to “The Innocents” (1961).
