About 2 months ago here in LA I got to go to a premiere screening of a special "Shush" cut of this film which was in black & white and with all the music pulled out, except for a very small amount. The rest of the audio was remixed to highlight the natural sound and enhance sections related to what Kate's character was going through. Mike and Kate did a really fun Q&A after and they're the funniest, sweetest people and told about the making of the film, etc. Mike originally wanted to make it in b&w but he wasn't well known enough yet to allow that. But with the remaster for the DVD that just came out, they were watching the b&w print to check it and just had one audio track open so it wasn't fully silent, which was the track without the music. Mike started noticing how interesting it was that way and they decided to remix the audio entirely that way for the new version. And, since I've never actually seen the original color version, it's going to be fun watching it with your reaction now!

Oooh, oooh! I get to field this one! "What's with bad guys and crossbows?" Crossbows are SILENT. You can fire a crossbow over and over without attracting attention from the neighbors since it makes about as much noise as opening a canned beverage. Also since you fire them like a gun, anybody can shoot one, it doesn't take enormous upper-body strength like a longbow. Reloading them is not so difficult as it appears in this movie, unaided it is absolutely a problem, but there are several "cocking aids" as they are called, ranging from simple crank pulley or lever devices up to electric winches. My favorite kind looks like an oversized fishing reel and a moderately fit child can use one if they know what they're doing. Any would-be home invaders or slasher movie protagonists please take note.

It occurs to me that if Kat watched this in her own house then it counts as one of them On-Location Reactions. I'm gonna have to go back and watch the others to find out how close we are to that fabled thirteenth one.

This is probably my second favorite Flanagan after Hill House. And I don't know if you saw but this was Kate's debut (Introducing) as well. So intense, fast paced and mostly realistic. And I agree that more horror movies should end like this. In the late 90s and early 00s the grim ending became really popular and now bad endings are almost as cliche as the good endings people complained about in the past. Great reaction!

Man, this is such a great movie. I remember when it came out...I saw the trailer, and discovered the only way to see it was on Netflix, which I didn't have at the time...but the trailer hooked me so much that I renewed my subscription just to watch it! I also appreciate the comments on the YouTube vid that are asking for Wait Until Dark, ;) I promise it's not me, lol And if you want to watch another creepy flick with John Gallagher Jr (the guy in the mask), you should check out 10 Cloverfield Lane!
