I thought the holiday season was over! I'll unwrap this gift when I get home from work. :D

(distorted, barely-understandable deformed monster voice) "...worth...the wait..."

So happy watching along with you on The Substance Kat ! First Late Night with the Devil...now this....you really are spoiling us !! Another fav of mine from last year ! This movie is fu@k'd up crazy but a brilliant, thrill a minute ride ! The gore didn't bother me, the sound clarity did make me squirm, especially certain eating scenes !! Thank you for watching this, loved it, any chance of you completing the hat-trick of horror favs and watching Abigail ? xx

Chris Morgan

This movie is horrifying with headphones. And +1 for Abigail. It's fun.

This was amazing and quite sad because we see it all the time, especially in places like Hollywood, where competition is fierce, and youth and looks are highly valued. Some people will do anything to turn back time, even if it means destroying themselves. I think this had more blood in it than Dead Alive.

Dave_Dot_Executable

Pretty sure she watched Abigail on the 15th. She posted about it in #lounge that day.

Great reaction! I was wondering how long before you gave up on averting our gaze. I'd love it if you'd make a short video to give some more composed thoughts on this. Also it's worth reading the script. Most of what's on screen is on the page but it does add a few layers in my opinion. Sadly I think the Academy will overlook it as they are wont to do in horror. Though Demi did win a Golden Globe. It really is a tragic tale of internalized misogyny. Like Elisabeth's so caught up in what society (and especially men) have valued about her to the point that she's no longer able to see any other value in herself. I mean if you think about it, she can cook French cuisine from just a book, she has skills in carpentry, welding, and so much more. But SHE can't see the value in those things. The part where she calls Sue "the only loveable part of me" always makes me tear up. I love this movie more each time I see it. Coralie is great and they should give her $50 million to make whatever movie she wants to next. You might want to check out the director's other film "Revenge" it's on Shudder. It's a rape/revenge tale with the same sort of fairy tale type magical realism and interrogation of the male gaze. Also you can find the script of the film (which is what won at Cannes) on Reddit. Well worth it for the extra layers. https://www.reddit.com/r/Screenwriting/comments/1fs7xve/the_substance_screenplay_by_coralie_fargeat/

Ahh brilliant, thanks Dave, missed that post.

Anton Hennicker

Absolutely Chris! So clear !!!! You could taste every chew !!!

You should try out one of the director's previous films: "Revenge" is a hell of a flick.

I really enjoyed watching along with you. I’ve seen The Substance three times now . As much as I love when you react to older horror movies. There are some more recent horror/ suspense films that I think you might enjoy . Heretic and Strange Darling being two that come to mind .

I think only Sue had the skills in carpentry, etc. I took it as part of being a better version of Elisabeth. She wasn't a better person though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Chris Morgan

Ah, but they're the same person. Just I different bodies.

LaserLamb

It was like equal parts John Carpenter, Ti West, Sam Ramie & Terry Gilliam. The theme reminded me a little of 'The Infinity Pool'. I was fully expecting Elisabeth to start draining Sue to get back to normal, but it didn't happen. Maybe she didn't realize that was what Sue was doing? I also thought Sue would have Elisabeth's consciousness, that she would just be Elisabeth in a new biological vessel, since they kept saying 'Remember you are one', but they didn't act like one. I'll have to watch it again. Also, how does a body split open right down the center of the back & something big come out without disturbing the spine & screwing up the ribcage & smushing the organs? She looked as empty as a sleeping bag! I'm pretty sure the substance was anti-freeze. I wonder what substance the writers were ingesting. 🤔 PLANET 🧟‍♂️ 🧟‍♀️ TERROR!!! Please & Thank you, Kat! 💖

That movie was insane . Great reaction .

The arm injections are real, and it's the director herself. She wrote, directed, and edited the film herself. It is my favorite horror films and I generally don't like Body Horror. Demi Moore was robbed of the best actress Oscar that year. I think the director won though
