Discord I don't subscribe to that bad experience will never go back. However I would like to suggest Frality with Bill Paxton and Matthew McConaughey. This one I am going to have to watch on my own. My friends are not responding to texts because I told them I can't watch a horror movie on a holy day. Tomorrow I can. Whatever I am sure they will come over tomorrow for it. 🙄 You see what I have to put up with Kat? Unbelievable

This movie had the unfortunate timing to come out within a year of The Substance, not the same year, but less than a year later.

New subscriber here! Discovered your channel on YouTube recently and watched everything! 😊 so fun to watch horror movies with you! Please one day check Gothika and the fear street saga 🤩 I also hope you’ll go back to react to bly manor 🤍

I always thought the youngest stepsister would be a wonderful Merida in the live action of BRAVE 🤩

Hadn't seen this. Cool take on the story. Really well done. Full-on banger from the ball until the end. I was praying we'd get to see the worm and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

I hope you'll react to more Flanagan horror. The Ouija & Oculus series. Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game, Before I Wake. I'm sure I'm missing more.

Glad you made it to the end. This follows the Grimm version of the fairy tale but the ending is worse for the sister. She gets her eyes pecked out by birds so maybe that last shot was a reference. Only by rejecting that unhealthy beauty dream (the tape worm) she's spared the birds who devour that dying dream instead. And in the end the dad is still laid out all dried up. Apparently even his daughter didn't care about burying him after all that. Kinda funny though. It's like The Substance but a happy (?) ending.

This incredible Film was the Directorial debut of a true master (Emilie Blichfeldt) One of few Movies that had me gagging as well. Thanks Armensatra/Kat, this Movie was a horror treat.

How in the world did she reject the tapeworm(s)? She kept them in for over 3 months then took the antidote when she said she would, after the ball.

Chris Morgan

That part is not realistic. From my understanding that's not how you get tapeworms or get rid of them. They also don't grow to the size of a squid. So it falls more into the same magic as Cinderella's dress and carriage. But the context matters. She could have continued down the path of her mother but accepted a life that was less pleasant but ultimately healthier. It's metaphorical so I'm just spit balling here.

LaserLamb

I was never aware there was an alternate ending to the Cinderella story. It was interesting, but even with that, it's still a fairy tale. Plus it's a fucking movie. So why put it down for being unrealistic in one breath, then defending the story itself in another? The way the story ended here, we don't really know if she had some kind of moment of clarity & change, she was just damn lucky she had a sister who cared for her, especially as insane as she was. Maybe it showed her being content with being a child a little longer, & not trying to be such an adult so quickly. The whole thing seems to be a critique of fairy tales & fantasy itself, & how unrealistic & damaging they can be in comparison to dealing with the real world. So, whether something was realistic or not is beside the point. And beauty standards & romantic poetry are the fantasy of billions of people. Poor girl musta been hella hungry after that. 🥺

Chris Morgan

It's not putting it down it's just saying the worm doesn't have to make sense in reality if it makes sense in the story where there are magical happenings. In the end she realizes what it cost her to chase her fantasy and rather than continue down the path of self destruction she accepts a different life that is symbolized by coughing up the worm. That's why I think it's a neat double feature with The Substance. They have different conclusions about similar processes. And yes I love the younger sister. Only sane person in the movie and their bond is what helps her move on.

LaserLamb

Yeah, one doesn't usually get worms by eating their eggs. Tapeworms can grow to 30 ft. or so, though. What came out of her looked to me like a big clump of tangled worms towards the end 🤮 Worms were treated using bitter, purgative plants such as wormwood or gentian, which would both kill the worms and expel them by provoking a nasty bout of non-cinematic diarrhea. Bon appetit! 🤢 And yeah, I suppose you could see her getting rid of the worms as symbolic, but the fact still stands that that was her stated plan, to take the antidote after the ball. Chopping off her toes wasn't on her bingo card, though. That was more of a learned insanity (mutilate the body). With determination like that, she could've been a Marine.
