This is great! Very entertaining, Kat! It's really fun to watch things like this with someone who is so smart! You nailed it last episode by noticing the cross necklace, which is a recurring theme in the series. Very well done on that point. (If you're ever looking for something very similar in tone, Fringe is the closest thing.)

Maybe you could to do two in one setting since they are not that long.

This is the episode that sealed my love for the x-files in my then ten-year-old heart back in 1993...and aaaaaall the lovely touching!

"The pinnacle of creepy" Heh. It's only episode 3 of season 1. Trust us, you have much higher peaks of creepy to reach.

Code Monkey

🤷‍♂️ Will they? Won't they? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next episode!

Most people think of the overarching alien conspiracy when talking about this show, but it's the "monster of the week" episodes like this one that really made me love the show.

I'm so glad we get to rewatch this iconic series with you and relive through you the enjoyment we all had when we watched it for the first time. What a delight!

You ask a question… then say, “don’t tell me”! So funny. I’ve watched every episode 5 or 6 times. It’s so great watching it again with someone so excitable for good paranormal food.

This episode definitely was one that ranked high up on my creepiest X-Files episodes list growing up! It definitely stays with you! 😂

I still remember watching this when it aired. Peering out from behind the hallway wall, waaay past my bed time. I didn't see the end for years because mum caught me & chased me back to bed before it finished.

This is one of my favorite episodes! Toombs is so creepy. Great reaction, love you clocked the weirdness of the necklace pull, and then the reason!

Despite having seen this episode dozens of times, I never noticed the similarities to Stephen King's IT until just now, when you did the "Hiya Georgie" bit. Makes sense that when inventing a monster of the week (this ep's monster doesn't have any direct parallels to famous paranormals or cryptids) they'd go right to the top and borrow from King. You're still at the relative summit of creepy when it comes to this show. Maybe even the front doors of the ski lodge, looking at the pinnacle. This is gonna be so much fun!

I wonder if anyone in the fandom has ever identified a myth or legend or folklore that Toombs might be eluding to. "Mutant" seems too general for the building of the bile-nests, hibernating for exactly 30 years each time, etc. But if there's a creature this is based around, it's not ringing any bells for me.

Well... I will never see Percy in the "same" way again - that's for sure. Obviously I remember this episode but at that time this actor Doug Hutchison was not familiar to me. By the way... there is a "horror" kind of movie with Chuck Norris "Hero and the Terror" 1988... and vents crawling is a "thing" there as well... And YES some episodes are "real" horror... like. ;) Can't wait for the next episode. :)

I love this series. I've made it a habit for the last few decades to watch the entire series every couple of years. It is very fun to watch it this time with you. You're filmmaking I.Q. is quite high. Are you a filmmaker? The only other complete series I watch as a tradition is FRINGE. It would difficult for me to pick which of the two I like most.

I joined up for a movie reaction and found this so I guess I'm sticking around lol

Classic episode. You may remember the actor who plays Tom’s in another horrible role from The Green Mile. He is apparently also a creep in real life and married his wife she was was 16 and him in his mid thirties.

This episode is what launched X-Files notoriety in my school. The girls who saw it never felt safe in any room with an air vent, my cousins worried they were being watched out of theirs. The writing and execution are sheer genius and it came at the perfect time. Personally I always had a soft spot for the green bugs episode
