This episode is in my top three favorites of the show (tough to rank when they're all so great), and probably the one I watch the most. It is a perfect episode of television and I adore it. And to answer your question, yes Kaylee was speaking Mandarin. The lore of the show is that when Earth that was got used up, America and China were the two "superpowers" left and that's why there is the blend of English and Chinese languages. It's also used when they want the characters to swear and they were able to slip Mandarin words in pass the censors. When you're done watching the show and movie, you'll need to look up some of the translations, cause there's some fun ones in there!

When I joined your Patreon to watch your exclusive Mike Flanagan shows I hadn't planned on watching Firefly for the thousandth time. Sometimes I get a little put out when reactors don't love it properly. But I'm so glad I gave your reaction to it a chance, they are DELIGHTFUL. I love that you appreciate the show so much, you get the humor, the romance, and recognize Kaylee for the superior, beautiful creature she is. I am so excited to finish this series with you! I don't see the movie Serenity on your page, I hope you get to it eventually, at least to wrap up the series.
