James At the Peak

The real horror ? One minute less of Kat. As usual the X-Files does not disappoint. Probably one of the best Sci-fi TV series ever produced. Thank you for your excellent Review.

K, Zachary

So this is one of the best episodes because honestly it's most likely to be true. Who knows what's hidden out in those forests. Cutting down trees thousands of years old?

Fish_Kungfu

The green translucent bugs they show near the end look like regular old aphids. Also, this has probably already been said but Gillian was pregnant during season one so they had her wearing loose layers to hide it.

Rayve

A fan favorite episode!

jamesthevampyr

They look like aphids in that real footage of the bugs. Which is apt given they suck the life out of plants.

Going back and rewatching these episodes knowing that she was pregnant mid-S1, it's hilarious how often they have her hiding a baby bump by being behind stuff, or sitting down, or shooting around it. If you know to look for it, it's very apparent that they're using every trick in the book to hide it... and doing a pretty good job of it, too.

So imagine watching this episode as it first airs, toward the end of the show's first season. Fox and the other major networks have cancelled just about every other contemporaneous sci-fi show you've enjoyed, often with very abrupt notice and very curt and truncated storylines. The internet is not what it is today, so (as far as you know) you're the only person who's actually watching this show, despite telling all your friends and whomever else might listen how good it is. Pretty much every review you've ever read of the show predicts it'll be cancelled at the end of its first and only season. And then THIS EPISODE happens. I was positive that this was how they were going to end the show, with the main characters dying out in the forest where no one would find them. Thank God for the last five minutes of this episode, or I would've given up on TV altogether. On the up side, this episode encouraged me to start digging around online (which was basically just forums on AOL at this point) to learn more about the show, and find other fans. So this meta-scare of "oh no they're killing off my favorite show/oh phew it was just a fake-out" is directly responsible for me being online like I am here and now. Thanks tiny bugs! You made me what I am today!

Saw this episode when it first aired on TV. My mother had to go to Indianapolis for a heart ablation. The rest of us (me, my dad and my other two siblings) were staying in a motel there for the night. We were watching some TV and the X-Files came on. I remember this one creeping me out at the time. Great episode and very memorable, lol

Octavia

It's funny because she's only like 3 months pregnant here, though. Aired in mid April, but filmed in March.

I am such a sucker for 'trapped in remote locations, in peril' episodes. The dynamic between Mulder & Scully... with the increasing tension and breakdown of emotions... is always so darn good. This episode delivers.

CLFuqua87

She is so pregnant in this episode lol

Dave_Dot_Executable

That is what I thought they were as well, but the Internet claims that they were microscopic videos of mites. So Kat was actually right, those ARE the bugs that live in your eyebrows.

laurax22

This was one of my favorite episodes! Scared the crap out of me as a kid, would never catch me hiking or camping after this one 😂

Dave_Dot_Executable

I'm like, my dudes, you need light and you are in a LOGGING camp with all kinds of chopped up trees around you, you don't even need to offend the forest spirits (if that's a concern) by cutting living wood, you can get some of the hundreds of tons of dead branches laying around and build a giant BONFIRE. For that matter, I would wonder how those bugs would handle clouds of smoke. Probably as well as any other bug handles clouds of smoke, that is, not at all.

Who Are These People

Hey Kat, just was looking for a place to suggest 'The Color Out of Space' (2019) since you reminded me by mentioning Nicolas Cage in your 'Dracula' reaction. It's hard to make a good Lovecraftian movie, this is about as good as it gets.

Who Are These People

Kat, if you're enjoying X-Files then check out the magazine 'The Fortean Times', founded in 1973 and based on writings of Charles Fort who lived in the late 1800's-early 1900's. It's all about cryptozoology, aliens, paranormal and any curious phenomena you can think of taken from a more serious and scholarly point of view. It reads like Mulder talks.

After the lumber company guy said "Four hour drive we'll have plenty of time to get to know each other, I wanted so badly for them to cut to them singing "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.." Lol.

To answer your question you absolutely can ride the rim at low speed to get where you're going.

RJ Inkglider

You could really see it in her face in later episodes.
