This was on our watchlist. Holy smokes! Thanks Kat! So we did some digging on this movie and it turns out it was inspired by The Simpsons Monkey Paw episode on Treehouse Of Horror II. Backrooms was really good too. That scared my gf. This one has her really freaked.

Grogu and The Mandalorian was one of the funnest time we have had the movies in a while. The best friend stabbing him in the back. That was low. The girl that really loved him and he couldn't see it. It's like Courtney Love said in Celebrity Skin, "be careful what you wish for."

Barker wrote, directed, edited, AND voiced the customer service rep on the phone! As for the actors, Inde Navarrette's biggest role prior was on the Superman & Lois show on CW. Michael Johnston's biggest role was on the Teen Wolf series on MTV. Cooper Tomlinson (Ian) is Curry Barker's writing/acting partner. As for the "mixed signals" she was giving in the car ride at the beginning, Barker had her do takes where she was into him and takes where she wasn't. Then he blended them together to make it harder for the audience to guess.

Soo glad you loved this ❤ yes please do try catch it in the cinema, it's still showing for a few more days x going to watch x6 this evening 😀 there's so many layers and levels to this flick. If you have time, there are some great features, fan theories and interviews with Curry and the cast, on YT. This flick has awards written all over it, especially for Inde who is off the scale good x so good to see Curry and other lesser known directors from YT and other backgrounds rise up to challenge the Hollywood mainstream with these type of horror flicks, Iron Lung, Backrooms being amongst others x film of the year for me, please go see it in the theatre 🎥, you'd love experiencing it on the big screen. I'm still noticing little bits I hadn't before every time x take a friend, go alone, you'll love it x

Great movie. I liked it even more the second time around. You should check out some of the behind the scenes info on this...the makeup they put on Inde Navarette for when she's hiding in the corner is so freaky, and she actually did the stunt when Nikki goes through the car window. This movie was shot with a 700k budget, and they couldn't afford a stunt team...so she's wearing a helmet with a wig on it! And it's kind of hard to tell, but during the final scene, Nikki is actually wearing Sarah's scalp! She thought Bear wanted Sarah, so she tried to make herself more like her...copied her tattoos, put on her dress. And what's interesting to me is that I went into this the first time thinking it was a "cursed object" movie...that the One Wish Willow was a sort of Monkey's Paw where the wish comes out twisted (like you'd get what you want, but with a catch). But the object isn't cursed. It all has to do with the wish itself. Ian wished for a billion dollars and he got it, and if Bear had made a more normal wish, everything would have been fine. But because his wish impacted someone's feelings and their will, that's what made it all go to shit. He wished for Nikki to love him more than anything in the fucking world, and that's exactly what he got. Even when she gave him her Tiger's Eye...it represents intention and willpower...so she literally hands her willpower over to him. Funnily enough, it also is supposed to help with emotional stability; and after she hands it over to him, that's when she starts to lose control. Man...there are so many little things to dissect in this movie. I could keep going, but this comment is getting a little long! :)

This movie in theaters was an experience my first horror movie. Glad it didn’t have so many jumpscares. Bear made bad decision after bad decision like Nikki was into him but he was to pussy to say it smh. Then he ruined her life

Best reaction I've watched and there have been many. Great job on catching the nuances even after a scene, and you didn't let Bear off the hook. He did have a moral obligation to her. The pain and agony she went through was pure torture and heartbreaking.

Now that Cassie is watching this, is my gf right about this movie that it's one giant rape scene? All this was done without her real consent. We argued about it. She said It's the equivalent of someone getting date-raped. I don't know she has her points. "She wasn't acting like herself"

How long was that "head over heels" montage between Nikki and Bear supposed to be? A week? Two? And then Nikki finds Sandy and makes a sandwich. So gross. I might be a bit hard to please, but that'd be a dealbreaker for me.

You've probably seen all the comments about 'did she or didn't she like Bear?' The debate rages on despite Barker saying they shot scenes both ways and mixed it up very much like the Willem Dafoe scenes in American Psycho. So when you were saying "I'm getting mixed signals" you completely nailed it. They shot it to mislead and confuse the viewer (and Bear by extension).

Yes, your gf is correct. Bear basically invoked "the great roofie spirit" (as it was referred to in Buffy, when Xander did a stupid spell and every woman in town was obsessed with him). Nikki did not have a choice when it came to Bear's wish, she had no active part in their relationship, she didn't choose it and she wasn't even in her own body/mind. When I watched this in the theater the "sex" (aka rape) scene made me feel ill because it was obvious that Nikki wasn't really there, Bear recognized she wasn't herself in the restaurant and he did what he wanted regardless. The fact that it's not really Nikki is hammered home several times, from her writing "Not Me" on the selfie Polaroid that she packs in his lunch, to her screaming "it's not me!" when she tried to kill herself at the party and especially near the end when possessed Nikki is sleeping and she tells Bear "I've never been with you." . She trusted him as a friend and he used her body however he wanted, whenever he wanted. It's also telling that he doesn't even care that their relationship isn't real when he argues with possessed Nikki after the party at Ian's and he's asking if she can "just *be* Nikki" he doesn't care if it's really her or not, he just wants the demon to pretend like she's Nikki.

Yeah I read that he straight up stole that tactic from American Psycho when they filmed scenes with Willem Dafoe being suspicious and not when he was investigating the disappearance of Paul Allen, and then mixed up the takes.

Her answer for what happens to Nikki after the movie ends is so hilarious. "Oh I think Nikki will be fine.. She's only facing triple homicide charges, but she will have to carry that trauma with her every day!"

She's going to be a very big star. She absolutely blew everyone away with this film. It's a once in a lifetime big break that every actress prays for.

I counted 3 "Ew"s from Nikki during her short stint in the movie as herself toward Bear. I think we can pretty conclusively say that she wasn't really into him, except maybe in passing because Sarah was and girls can be competitive that way and she realizes on some subconscious level that if Bear and Sarah hook up she'll have no one to lean on.

She did a stellar job. That said, it's a lot easier to play crazy demonic than it is to play some complex character in a period drama or something. Still she did some subtle things that were truly impressive.
