"As the real as the acceptance that it could it happen to you" That's scary, The Strangers scared the crap out of alot people including me and I don't get scared easily.

This was an important episode in the character development of Scully, and a fantastic job of top acting by Gillian Anderson.

Bear in mind that Donnie's appearance at 3:55 in this reaction was almost certainly NOT a symptom of Scully's PTSD.

Who Are These People

Don't worry Kat- in general, X-Files ramps up and hits a Golden age of great episodes, both alien-themed and other. You have yet to see the best of the best. That said, yep, there are some slow ones and some stinkers in there too. In fact, in terms of individual episode ratings, Season 1 has the largest proportion of low-rated episodes with seasons 3-6 having the fewest.

Who Are These People

Oh, and I was just checking out the post-seasons of X-Files (seasons 10 & 11 were released 15 years after the original series ended) and I was reminded that Gillian Anderson was in the Hannibal TV series. Sounds like a series that'd be right up your alley.

Ironically, Gillian Anderson was a strong candidate to replace Jodie Foster in the "Silence of the Lambs" sequel "Hannibal," but ultimately lost out to Julianne Moore.

There was a rumor going around the internet when this episode first aired that the original version of the story called for Donnie Pfaster to be some sort of literal monster, but when the creature suit was deemed sub-par, the episode was re-written so that Pfaster was a totally human fetishist/serial killer, and then the suit was used in darkened shots only as a misdirect, or as a kind of metaphor for his monstrous deeds. Whether that rumor is true or not, this episode stands as a great reminder that human beings can be just as monstrous as any alien or mutant creature that the X-Files might cover, a premise that the show will occasionally revisit in seasons to come.

I love the synth heavy score on these old X-Files shows. They remind me of Twin Peaks. I hope you get around to watching those eventually too. They have a paranormal-horror vibe that I'm sure you will like, plus that extra special Lynch brand humor.

I wish Anderson had gotten that role. I really didn't like Julianne Moore at all. Then again I've never heard Anderson attempt a southern accent so she might have been the wrong choice. all I know is that I didn't like Moore.

"People still leave their doors unlocked around here.." That's the true horror of this episode, am I right?
