Definitely top five favorite werewolf movie for me.

Transformation brought to you by the mind of Rick Baker 🙂

John Walters

Looking forward to this movie reaction from you Kat, because, well, it's a movie reaction from you. By the way, another horror/comedy directed by John Landis was the underrated Innocent Blood (1991), about a sexy female vampire with a strong French accent who lives in Pittsburgh and enjoys attacking mobsters. It's worth a look.

ManHind SteamCushion

yay! I've been looking forward to this one. I mean... it suits my biases? This one's more my playlist. :) Good work on solving the frame rates - thanks!

When it was released, a lot of people didn't know what to do with a horror movie with a good soundtrack and a bunch of dark comedy mixed in. Now it's a standard. Too bad that amazing practical effects didn't stay the standard for horror... CG can be great (but often isn't) and can definitely do (but often doesn't) things that practical effects can't. I miss the really visceral feel you get from movies like this one, or others like "The Thing" (1982), "The Fly" (1986) or "The Blob" (1988). Speaking of "The Fly", apparently there is a new remake coming... I hope they get the budget and time to make the CG good.

Ernesto Lopez

What, this one is absolute 🔥 the practical effect are soo good. They don’t make them like they used to

Symon O'Hagan

Worth it for the soundtrack alone! Bring on the Creedence!

Josh Link

I love that every song in the soundtrack has to do with the moon in some way. 🌕🐺

Symon O'Hagan

OH. ALSO. AND. I'm sure people have already asked for these over and over already but I love both "The Howling" and "Dog Soldiers". The next time you feel werewolfy.

Gary Payton

Another one of the classics under your belt. I heart this movie so much, Kat. I hope you loved it too. Oh and the movie was perfectly in sync as far as I could tell. Congrats on resolving that issue.

ManHind SteamCushion

A MECO album?? Well I never caught that in the credits before. Outstanding.

JayL@jayl3002

We LOVED watching this with you. American Werewolf does have a sequel but not worth it. An American Werewolf in Paris but what I love most about this movie is the jump scares and tension mixed with humor. Fun Fact, The SFX crew and director John Landis are the ones who directed Thriller by Michael Jackson and Frank Oz, the American embassy guy is the voice of Miss Piggy and Yoda.

Awesome reaction! The expressions are priceless. And I love your "Avert your gaze" warnings!

AceLonzo

Any optometrists in the house?

Cl8on

What makes you think that transformation WASN'T real? They told the actor, either you turn into a werewolf or you won't get paid....and abracadabra bada-bing bada-boom.....voila....WEREWOLF!!! 🤣 😉

katwatcheshorrormovies

NOT SURPRISED!! Can't wait to watch your other top four.... DROP THEM IN THE DISCY.

katwatcheshorrormovies

Thank you Ooklafuge!! If there's every an issue again, PLEASE let me know! I am so glad that it's solved!!

katwatcheshorrormovies

I gotta watch the Blob soon... It is very interesting that they switched to CGI when they could obviously do so much with practical effects... I guess it was cheaper... But nothing ages very well. Hm!

katwatcheshorrormovies

The next two werewolf movies I'll be watching! Was going to do DS first... but so many recommendations for The Howling...

katwatcheshorrormovies

YAY!! I am so happy to read that it was perfectly in sync!!! That is honestly such a relief. I am so glad I got to the bottom of it. I did love this movie!! I think I'm hooked on practical effects!!!

katwatcheshorrormovies

YAY!! THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY. Hehe I am nervous to watch Paris... might not watch it for a loooong time. When we get into 90s CGI phase of the channel xD. CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED FRANK OZ.

katwatcheshorrormovies

Thank you for watching wtih me sixstr1ng!! HAHAHA INNOCENT YOUTUBE VIEWER!! I'm out here trying to protect you. Always:D.

katwatcheshorrormovies

Honestly if I were there director I'd be the same... GET BITTEN BY A REAL WEREWOLF I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU'RE THE ACTOR COMMIT TO YOUR CRAFT!!

Thomas Yanez

Just to clarify - when you mentioned "switched to CGI", none of the movies I listed used CG for their effects, they are all practical. If you were referring to my comment about the upcoming remake of "The Fly", then I was just assuming they'll be using CG (yeah, because cheaper). Maybe they will surprise us and go practical again... not going to hold my breath, though.

Thomas Yanez

An example of a movie that DID "switch to CGI" was the prequel to "The Thing" (1982) named, stupidly, "The Thing" (2011). They spent a bunch of time and money trying to do everything practically, which you'd especially hope for a remake/sequel/prequel/whatever for THIS movie and then, for reasons, the studio made them go back and re-do everything with CG instead. Maybe the practical effects sucked, or maybe they just got scared.

Thomas Yanez

MECO... nick name for the musician Domenico Monardo. He used to make re-imagined versions of movie sound track albums (among other things), in this case "Impressions of An American Werewolf in London". I think he retired from music a while back, though.

Thomas Yanez

They were involved with the "Thriller" video specifically because Jackson saw this movie and wanted them to help him make it awesome.

ManHind SteamCushion

He made a disco Star Wars, disco Close Encounters, disco Wizard of Oz etc... For this he didn't quite do that, but .. it has cover versions of some songs in the movie, others that are supposed to connect thematically but are just sort of "off" from the movie's tone. It's a weird curio.

Great reaction 😄

Other great werewolf movies are “The Curse of the Werewolf” (1961) and the classic original, “The Wolf Man” (1941), both mentioned in this film. The little growl he does in the mirror is a reference to “The Wolf Man,” but if you aren’t aware of that, it does sound like a pirate, arrrrrrrr. Oh, “The Howling” (1981)—directed by Joe Dante. He also directed “Gremlins” and “Piranha” (1978). The latter is one of many fun movies made in the blockbusting wake of “Jaws.” All of these movies are recommendable. There were several sequels made in the 1940s of “The Wolf Man.” He was the saddest Universal monster, even more than Frankenstein’s, because he is in constant torment over his supernatural condition. He is a reluctant monster and he longs for death as a release, even attempting to take his own life, like this one. And these sequels are from the 1940s! When Bram Stoker was working on his vampire novel (published as “Dracula” in 1897) he took notes from a book on the folklore and superstitions surrounding werewolves. Stoker’s Count Dracula is, in fact, an imaginative hybrid of vampire and werewolf characteristics (along with a little history and a little sorcery). It was Stoker who created the vampire with the power to transform into a great wolf. On film, Dracula and other vampires are often seen in the form of a wolf or a bat. Only “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” (1992) depicts Dracula taking not only the form of a wolf but also a part wolf, part man appearance, more like Lon Chaney, Jr’s werewolf from the 40s.

Joseph Charles

Oh, I just remembered an underrated werewolf movie you might consider: THE COMPANY OF WOLVES (1984). It’s so haunting. The practical effects are great, too. It’s really a dark and gruesome Little Red Riding Hood.

Barry

A Stephen King werewolf movie you might like is "Silver Bullet". It stars Gary Busey, Corey Haim and others you may recognize.

AB-80X

Kat if you like this please watch The Howling. Arguably the best werewolf movie ever made. And the effects are even better than in this.
