Hey! Thanks for this video it is helpful as I am trying to implement your template into my productions / mixing. A couple questions, do you think about all of the gain staging steps while you are in the idea creation stage? I am trying to figure out a way to keep in the flow but also not have my track be a mess so I can kind of mix as I go.

Kenneth Grimm

I meant to hit space but it posted, also do you try to leave the volume of your bus groups at 0db, and shoot for the -7 db on the master before adding plugins? I am working on a mix with your template and the levels are loud going into the master, wondering if it makes a difference if I just drag all the groups and stems down for gain staging, or if its better to bring down all the individual sounds and keep the bus groups hitting at the same level . Does that make sense?

Dilby

I do work with gain staging in mind and roughly mix as I go. My template is setup so that I can get it as close as possible with only minor adjustments and fine tuning in the end. The first thing I do and most important step is set the level of the kick. I know that will be the loudest element and I balance all other elements to the kick.

Dilby

Doesn't make sense exactly. But gave some ideas in my other response. If you need some help we can do a session on Zoom and I can talk you through it. Book here www.wkndaudio.com

Ok thanks! I might check that out. To try one more time to rephrase the question, I've basically mixed a track to my liking using your template but all of the bus stems are causing too much gain going into the master, wondering if you would just turn down all of your bus tracks (melody grp, bass/kick, drum group). Or go into each group and pull down the individual faders (for example, pulling down the drum bus fader, or going in and turning down all of the hi hats, percussion, snares before they hit the drum bus.

Hi Dilby, been diggin in your Fader Pro courses, great stuff! I also downloaded a few of the Project files to follow on the YT vids. Im have a hard time saving them to come back to as Im rebuilding with the Plugins I have that are close to yours. It wont let me save, Sorry about the tech question for this as its not the creative side. Thanks agin and great work!

Dilby

Hey Bobby, I'm not too sure to be honest. I use Live Suite so it could be that. If there is something in the project that is only available in the Suite version, then perhaps it won't save. Unfortunately I am not positive about that. But that's The most plausible theory I can come up with.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, okay I figure it’s Suite verses Standard (what we have ) thanks for reaching out, and your sounds are so solid! Grateful to be learning from you.
