Chinese athlete Fang Zheng lost his legs when a tank rolled over him in Tiananmen Square in 1989. He now lives overseas. Let's just say Fang Zheng has lots to say about the Chinese communist regime.

I sat down with Fang Zheng during the Oslo Freedom Forum last week.

In case you were wondering, we did this interview with his translator, and then Shelley did a more formal translation and voiceover afterward.

He Was Crushed by a Tank...and Survived

Chinese athlete Fang Zheng lost his legs when a tank rolled over him in Tiananmen Square in 1989. He now lives overseas. Let's just say Fang Zheng has lots to say about the Chinese communist regime. Chris sat down with him in Oslo, Norway on May 30, 2018. Special thanks to the Oslo Freedom Forum for helping us arrange this interview, and for all the amazing work they do to highlight individuals who stand up to authoritarian regimes. I have a question in regard to the South China Sea. We know that the dispute has soured the view of China in some countries but how about relations with Taiwan, seeing as they claim the same area and occupy an island in the sea?

Thank you for taking my suggestion for having the interviewees speak in Chinese. We must never let anyone forget Tiananmen Square in 1989, or think that it is irrelevant ancient history.
