China’s Dangerous New Warfare Against Taiwan

China is using Gray Zone Warfare in its latest attack on Taiwan. US Taiwan relations are at an all time high, with Mike Pompeo sending high ranking US officials to Taiwan to meet with Tsai Ing Wen. But that's put China Taiwan relations at an all time low. The Chinese military regularly harasses the Taiwan military and Taiwan navy. Is a Taiwan invasion around the coroner? Operating only

Taiwan should shoot a few down, never appease a bully stand up and punch him square in the face

What Taiwan needs is some cheaper aircraft for this mission. Intercept and inspection is a different mission than intercept and engage. A lower cost light fighter or even UAVs could easily do this mission hundreds of times per month and not be costly. And if the unit wears out it is economical to replace it, because cheap to purchase and operate should be part of the consideration. You have real air superiority assets sitting on the ground in hot standby ready to scramble.

UAV's might not be a bad idea. You could fly many more than manned jets and not risk the chance of a Taiwanese pilot accidentally starting a conflict with a momentary mistake. I'm sure part of the Chinese plan is to draw accidental fire and be able to claim that Taiwan started the conflict.
