We Keep Getting China Wrong

There are many people who would like to help China and see the Chinese people thrive and prosper. But to some, that means helping the Chinese Communist Party, which is the biggest threat to the Chinese people's wellbeing there is. In this episode of China Uncensored, we look at what we keep getting wrong about China and the Chinese Communist Party, why conflating China with the CCP is problematic, and what things might look like for China without the CCP. It does amaze me that access to Western markets has lifted thousands out of poverty in China, yet the CCP despise the West. You would think they would show more appreciation of the hand that feeds you but that’s Chinese morals for you.

Ian Pendleton

Specifically it's the CCP morals at work. They take the credit for lifting millions of people out of poverty, but in reality those people lifted themselves out of poverty with the tools they had at their disposal. Access to Western markets was on of those tools, and just because the CCP's unwilling to admit that they played only a small role in that, if any, doesn't make what those people did any less amazing.

Ian Pendleton

It sounds to me a lot of what those people are saying about the CCP is more a pride/ego thing then anything else. They're unwilling to admit that they might ever be wrong, and because of that they keep pushing the narrative that helping mainland China is for the best no matter how much evidence flies in the face of what they say. Do you think there's ever going to be a day when they finally admit that they're wrong and start trying to help? Or do you think that day will never happen?

The craziest story to come out of China today, someone ran the tap water in Beijing through a Covid test and it came out positive. The CCP said the water ruins the test. So someone tested NY water. It came out negative. Are they punishing the people for daring to protest?

I saw a crazy story about a Taiwan resident with a rare immune problem getting 8 kidney transplants in a 6 month period. How many people will they kill to make money off of one person?

Mark E

Take care, Chris. I'm sure you are on a hit list.

Hey Chris, When Putin either flees or is exiled form Russia, Will the CCP take him in (providing he has something of value to trade,) or will they just let him fend for himself and try to make deals with the new leadership?

Ian Pendleton

Honestly, I think Putin would rather die before leaving Russia, no matter how much pain he causes other people by doing so. That said, if he thinks he could be able to regain control of the Russian state at a later date, he might be able to swallow his pride and remain in China for some time. I'm not an expert on these matters though, so be sure to take this with a grain of salt.
