If you think about it, no one wants to go to war with the U.S. And we do all sorts of crazy-town stuff. And our state department says things like, "The CIA isn't involved in drug smuggling" or "We have proof of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, even though Saudi Arabia is most likely behind the attacks" or "Waterboarding isn't torture" "Freedom isn't free... send us more of your children to die"

The Donald would be proud of your style of assertion, "non-evidentiary". The State Dept said none of those things. However, It is true that freedom isn't free as your final phrase points out.
