Bartleby

Dawn Marie’s vocabulary is about to get a whole lot more colorful

Wreath35

👍 Enjoy that!

Bartleby

There were some other actors in this show you’ve seen before Dawn. The actor who plays the doctor is Brad Dourif. You saw him previously on the channel as Grima Wormtongue in The Lord of the Rings. The creepy looking guy working with the villain wizard Sauramon. He also played the mental patient who stuttered and then killed himself in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. And the actor who runs the hotel who’s friendly with the saloon owner/pimp is William Sanderson You saw him previously in Blade Runner as the genetic designer who the replicants go to and use to get to Tyrell. The designer who made the toys.

Bill W

The actor who plays Wild Bill Hickock is Keith Carradine. He is the older brother of Robert Carradine who played "Slim" in The Cowboys. Their father John was in a number of films with John Wayne. Hey Dawn, most of these character were real people, or based on real people. Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane were the only ones who are really famous.

Bill W

I say when Dawn is done with Deadwood, it's time for her to watch Tombstone and Unforgiven. She's waited long enough.

Bartleby

The actor who helps the guy hang and journeys to Deadwood is Timothy Olyphant. Very naturally fits into the role of a cowboy. He’s the lead actor in another TV series that’s kind of a modern western. “Justified” Takes place present day but still plays and feels like a western. The character he plays in it is even known for the cowboy hat he always wears.

Al

Maratha Jane Canary, a.k.a., Calamity Jane

JL Green

Aww Dawn Marie. If you only knew how happy I am with you enjoying Deadwood 😉 I've said it before but it bares worth repeating, I personally feel this is the greatest western television series ever made. Ha, you think the "C" word is a bit strong, just wait. I abhor very strongly the "N" word but it will rear its ugly head too. That said, the writing is top shelf throughout the series. BTW, Wild Bill Hickok's female partner is Calamity Jane who like Bill was a real historical character. Thank you so much Dawn. Like you always say, I love you forever ❤️

Louis Marzullo

Has there ever been a show more tailor-made to Dawn? I think the creators must have had her in mind! Bullock's first name is Seth. Calamity Jane is played by Robin Weigert, who was the gang's lawyer in Sons of Anarchy. Can you believe it's the same actress?? And Alma is addicted to some liquid opiate, Laudum or Laudamum. Prediction: this show will be like an opiate for you & we'll get all 36 episodes!

Bartleby

Ahh Laudanum… The narcotic of choice for bored housewives of the old west.

Louis Marzullo

I first saw Ian McShane (AI) as Judas in 'Jesus of Nazareth' in '77. We should all age like him!

Bill W

I've probably only heard it once in my life. Same as the David Soul song. 🤣

Bill W

Aaand now we know Dawn will enjoy at least 1 scene in Bull Durham! 😀

Louis Marzullo

That was Keith Carradine! Got alot of play back in the day on soft-rock stations. Actually, so did "Don't Give Up On Us, Baby"

Bill W

Yes, i'm saying i've only heard both songs once each. "I'm Easy" wss from a movie, wasn't it?

Ceryk

Yep, stealing a man's horse or livestock was a hanging offense back then in the West. Was also not uncommon for the person who was stolen from to dole out the punishment. Death penalty and revenge killings were pretty liberally executed back in the Wild West.

Bartleby

Stealing a man’s horse was like stealing a man’s livelihood. Remember. No cars. (Meaning this for Dawn not you Ceryk )

Louis Marzullo

Now I definitely want a hoodie with "Here we go, you c*cksuckers!" & Dawn's picture on the back, the two-fisted one. I shall wear it when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (Yankee Stadium, The Bronx) & fear no evil...

Chicago Artist Jon

This isn’t a Western. It’s a low brow Kardashianesque soap opera circus of anachronistic vulgarities meant to whip up ratings on cable tv for the dim witted. Entertain yourselves I guess but not for me. We went from the Godfather to this? Meh. Rethinking.

Toc

Question! To anyone who can answer! I just joined in the last month, the "Big Fat Credits" tier. Where do I submit my titles for the Monthly Patreon Pick draw? Is there a link I might have missed? I did DM Dawn a couple of times but didn't hear back (I'm sure she has 10,000 messages and comments a day!). Is that all one has to do? I DM'd her to tell her she doesn't have to put my name in the credits, and the two titles (I think I picked Paper Moon (1973) and Local Hero (1983). (Or maybe it was King Of Comedy, I can't remember!). If anyone knows if I did it wrong or if I'm just not navigating the site properly, could you let me know? Thanks!

DawnMarieAnderson

Hey! I've been working my way through those 10k messages 😜 but haven't reached yours yet! So I add everyone's (in the top tiers) names into a random generator and the Patron that is picked gets to choose the movie for the month. If your name is picked I send you a DM to let you know 😁 hope that makes sense!

Toc

Thanks, Dawn! Now I understand! :D

Myghal

Glad you enjoyed it Dawn! Deadwood is my favourite TV show. I took the plunge and joined your Patreon when I saw you were reacting to it. Looking forward to the next episodes!

Louis Marzullo

Hate to lose you, Jon. Can't you just re-read "The Brothers Karamazov" every Thursday evening for the next 18 weeks while us low-brow dim-wits are getting our bread & circus fix? 😁

Louis Marzullo

Hey there! Do I dare ask? Is the editor search still alive? Again, asking for a friend who keeps mumbling something about "4 uploads a week". I'm trying to get him some help... 😆

Bill W

Dawn, you came up for air!!!! Nice to see you again on this side of the video screen! 😀😀❤️❤️

Bill W

I have to agree. I like the characters and the tie-in to actual history, but the level of vulgarity and the FREQUENCY with which it is used is so over the top. It's like a Scorsese and a Tarantino script mashed together. I personally find it off-putting in general, but even more so, it just seems absurdly out of place for 1876.

Bill W

Opium was easier to get than a bottle of Chardonnay. 😀

Bill W

Now we know....if we need to get a hold of Dawn, we have to run it through Tic Toc Melody.

Louis Marzullo

But this isn't 1876 Victorian London or Upper Manhattan cafe society. It's a Wild West frontier mining camp set amidst brothels & saloons. I get the profanity not being your cup of joe & I don't think the quality of the show would've suffered cutting it by, say, half. But questioning its accuracy? I've read more than one interview with historians of the Dakota Territories saying it's pretty much on the nose & was a vital pressure valve release for the high tensions... Robert Inman want to weigh in?? 😁

Ragnar Miersch

Awwww. there it is. It took almost 12 minutes for the first "I'm so confused", but it was soooo satisfying. Watching Miss Dawn unravel the plotlines, intricacies and idioms of what she is watching is just...., well it's damn near priceless!

Toc

Just another service I provide.... 😀 (It's all in the wrist....;D) (you guys are funny!)

Toc

lol. In all seriousness, I just figured she's got kids and probably has more than enough eye strain from watching a ton of movies, and then editing them, I would imagine wading through a million comments and DMs feels like homework! Times twenty! Sheer drudgery! Migraine inducing! I'm getting a headache just thinking about it! :D

Louis Marzullo

Yeah, dat's why I include "editor for Dawn Marie" in my daily 🙏, somewhere between world peace & winning the NY State Lotto 😄

Ragnar Miersch

I'm really surprised, given Miss Dawn's photographic memory, that she did not recognize Al Swearingin (sp?) as Winston, "The Manager" of the New York Continental from the John Wick saga. Maybe it was the plethora of characters in this series that noodled her noggin.

Louis Marzullo

She did recognize him! Very early in the episode, she says "And there's Winston", or words to that effect.

Ragnar Miersch

Thanks. I missed that. Glad to see she is still in top form. I should've never doubted her.

john ruddick

The swear words used in it are not ones that existed at the time. And on the contrary most of the people out there may have been violent and ruthless but swearing was not a very common thing historically. That is the one major historical error with the show.

Louis Marzullo

So be it. Everything I've been reading the past two days leaves the matter at about 50-50. But either way, there is still such a thing as artistic license. Shakespeare wasn't a great historian, either. And Deadwood is still a great show.

proVaxxer

You asked if this show is "real life". Yes, sort of. It is very very very loosely based on history -- names, places, occupations, certain events.

john ruddick

The word cocksucker probably existed but not in the US at the time. It comes from the idea of a "French whore" a woman who would give blowjobs as they originated in the orient and spread to France through the colonies. The word cock refers to a French person as the french cock is their national bird. But if you called a man a cocksucker it was a reference to the french proclivity of the rent boy or male prostitute which was fashionable and accepted in Paris at the time. But the word in common use hadn't reached the US until the very end of the century and the beginning of the next. Dirty language history!!!!!!! Hehehe 😋

Louis Marzullo

Jesus, John! What is your source material?? 😂 Should have guessed the French figured prominently in all of this... 😁❤️🇫🇷

john ruddick

I am historian although not so much these days, I've done archiving in paris, Marseille, Washington and in sandhurst military college. I ran across loads of weird shit in my time. I used to do it when I wasn't doing security work. I also have degrees in American studies, political science and international politics from reading university (I did them while I was in service lol I used to get board) I studied the different linguistic characteristics of the US. I did a study of mainly Louisiana but came across a great fun book all about swear words used in America and where they all originated. Can't remember the name though. It was 20 years ago now.

Louis Marzullo

God, if there's one thing I can't stand it's an underachieving slacker! 😄 Well-done, sir!
