It's so hard to believe you used to be a "chick-flick/rom-com" lass. But you had the strength to change... 🍊

Bill W

Corey Feldman and Keifer Sutherland are in both movies... The Lost Boys and Stand By Me, and they came out only 1 year apart. (and they both have good songs). So that may have added to the confusion, But otherwise, they are drastically different movies.

Good Observations at the end Dawn. I grew up in the 80's being born in 1975. We had no internet and I remember when we just had 3 natonal TV channels. Very limited options. When we got cable TV, it was big. The internet came out when I was in my last year of high school and that was also very limited.

Bill W

The name of the town Castle Rock is a name that Stephen King uses in his stories...usually Castle Rock, Maine. This time it was Oregon. The director Rob Reiner would start film production company Castle Rock Entertainment the following year, named in honor of Stephen King.

Bill W

I was born in '73. Never had cable until I moved out. (and actually got rid of it for good after a few years). We were seemingly the last house in the neighborhood to get a color tv. Still had a rotary phone. My grade school got computers when I was in 8th grade. I didn't take any computer classes in HS and don't think I got on the internet until like '97. Remember having like 20 phone numbers memorized?? That seems crazy now.

Matt O'Keefe

My family did not get the internet until '97 either. When VCRs first came out, I remember we had to rent a VCR to watch movies we rented because VCRs were so expensive. To buy a VHS tape was crazy expensive too. Kids had limited options to do at home so going outside was generally the best option to play with other kids. My older brother and I had an Atari for about 10 years until I was given a Nintendo in like 1990. Those were fun. But outside play was always the best. I grew up in a neighborhood with a ton of other kids who were around my age within 5 years my age. I was very lucky that way. Several times all the kids got together to do something. Loads of fun. We felt like controlled several blocks then.

Bill W

Atari!! Got mine in '82 and I think I had it all through high school... hooked up to our old B/W tv in my room. And it was basically only good for Atari because the only antenna hookup was in the living room. Our neighborhood was surrounded by RR tracks so this always felt familiar. We had adventures just like this, minus the gun and the dead body.

How about school closures for snow? Those were all-day outdoor affairs. Snowball fights, hitting passing cars, football, King of the Mountain, shoveling an elder's stoop for a buck or two apiece, then to the corner "Candy Store" for snacks. Ours was owned by a guy named Bruno who sounded like Frank Pentangeli but with a heavy accent & a cigarette perpetually dangling from his lip: "Fucka keeds maka da floor alla wet!! Ok, ok, spenda money!!"

john ruddick

That was great I really enjoyed the outro. So much of my childhood was spent outside in the woods with my friends I have a massive soft spot for this film. Thank you Dawn.

Bill W

I swear my grade school never closed except for a huge blizzard we had in '79. I don't recall my HS closing either. If they did, I have no recollection of it.

Louis Marzullo

Jeez, we had a TON of closings, at least 3 or 4 per winter, every year. Your superintendent was mean!

Bill W

Catholic schools. Hardcore. Plus..parents are paying money to have somewhere to send us! 😀 Our school year always ended like 2 weeks earlier than the public schools because we didn't have all those random days off. And unless we had a fever or some kind of intestinal ... "requirement"...we were going to school. "You'll feel better when you get there." was my parents' philosophy.

Bill W

At age 12, I don't know if we could have gotten away with being gone overnight without one of our parents finding out... but we would definitely be gone ALL DAY, from 9am until after it got dark. MILES away, in places where we shouldn't have been. 😀

Louis Marzullo

I didn't get to Catholic school until high school & then it was culture shock: all boys, jacket, tie & dress slacks every day, no facial hair, no sneakers... Thanks Mom & Dad! ❤️

john ruddick

At aged 12 I was passing myself off as 18 and buying vodka from the off licence lol I was a bit wild back then but I have finally grown out of it. With age comes wisdom. Allegedly.....

Louis Marzullo

LOL. My parents both worked so I'd hear "If you still feel sick when you get there, ask to see the nurse". But yeah, a fever was always a get out of jail free card.

Bill W

Wow. Even at 14 we couldn't pass for 18. Drinking age was 21 by then anyways. We weren't drinking but we did have an older looking friend with facial hair that could get us cigarettes. One night we walked around the neighborhood smoking a pack..we ran out of matches, so we chain smoked the rest of the pack. We got so sick, throwing up...shaking from the nicotine. That was it for me. Never wanted another cigarette after that.

john ruddick

Lol I was 6ft tall by the time I was 12 and a judo national champion so it didn't take much.

Louis Marzullo

John, the more of your background I hear, the more I think "John Ruddick" is an alias! 😄 Does MI6 figure in at some point??

Richard Stokes

Dawn, talking of this movie and Lost Boys the third 80s movie of that kind (and you can tell because Corey Feldman is in that one too!) is The Goonies, which I loved as a kid as it had some very funny bits. I think you can see elements of all three films in Stranger Things. Loved the reaction, so good to see you get the emotion of it and why

Louis Marzullo

Anyone else want to know what Dawn was getting into "roaming the streets at 5, probably even before that"?? 🤣 Also, this iconic line: "All the kids had back then was dirt & imagination". That should be in a bloody movie!!

john ruddick

I guess I can answer that with a question louis, "What's the first rule about fight club?" .

Bartleby

FYI Dawn. You have seen River Phoenix on the channel before. River Phoenix played young Indiana Jones in the last Indiana Jones movie. He was a teenager at the time. Three years after this. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The one with Sean Connery There were no more Indiana Jones movies after that.

Louis Marzullo

I'll never forget how we all in the audience cheered/laughed when young Indy gave himself Harrison Ford's real scar!

Robert Inman

Some of us are lucky enough to have grown up in the 60s and still have their best friend from that time :)

Louis Marzullo

My best friend & I met when we were both 23 & are as close as ever at 58, despite living 1,200 miles apart. Thank God for texting!
