Deepwater Horizon is a must since it was based a true event.

Nerd's Gold

There are good movies on here, but I'll be surprised if this isn't a runaway winner.

JD Onesi

not at all shocked that Twister is far ahead of all its competitors so far

Bartleby

“The Impossible” from 2012 is definitely a disaster movie based on a true story that is a MUST SEE Dawn.

Bartleby

Even when Twister came out, it was seen as big dumb frivolous movie.

Zinphad

The Poseidon Adventure is great, particularly considering when it was made. The Road would be a perfect entry for the poll Great Movies We Will Never Want To Watch Again.

Bill W

There's a lot of connections here. 2 movies both have Mark Wahlberg (ugh). 2 movies are essentially the same movie. 2 movies have screenplays by Stirling Silliphant, music by John Williams and Oscar winning theme songs by Maureen McGovern.

Eric Janssen

Poseidon's okay, but if you have to encapsulate the entire 70's disaster-movie genre in one, Towering Inferno is the other one that got the Oscar nomination. It's got all the reasons why they weren't so bad after all, wrapped up in one, and I've seen new reactors get hooked on it all over again.

john ruddick

It's a tough question, but I think the Poseidon Adventure is the quintessential 70's disaster movie. But twister is a great movie too as is the towering inferno. You have a good spread of great disaster films, I mean Alive is a great one too so I will be interested to see which one comes out on top!

John Lawton

I actually paid good money to see “The Swarm” when it was first released. Could be worse. Somebody actually invested time and money to MAKE IT!

Louis Marzullo

Anyone else here old enough to remember "EARTHQUAKE: EVEN MORE EXCITING IN SENSAROUND!!!", where select seats in select theaters would vibrate?

Bill W

The Road doesn't really fit in here since the disaster takes place before the movie even starts. That could go on a post-apocalyptic poll.

Bill W

I was curious to see the new Alive- Society of Snow. I tried watching it via another reactor, but she was aware of the story, and so a bit over the top with emotion before they even boarded the plane...so I bailed. The Road should really be on a post-apocalypse poll, rather than "disaster". I'll be fine with either of the two leaders here.

WouldYouKindly

All Classics for me the Poseidon Adventure though pretty sure this used to be a regular around Christmas time Gene Hackman soooo young lol

Louis Marzullo

Hey, how about "Bonnie & Clyde" for a young Gene (although there's really no such thing 😄)? Can't wait for Dawn to do it

JL Green

I grew up watching The Poseidon Adventure on TV so I have a sentimental attachment to it, but The Perfect Storm was (loosely) based on an actual event, so it got my vote.

john ruddick

Yeah I didn't even know about society of snow and the road is a bit out of place in the poll but I don't think it will win anyway.

Bartleby

I remember when I first saw Alive thinking it wasn’t the best dramatization of that story. Seeing that movie I thought at the time a better film could be made of that story. And now it appears that has happened. Big fan of that director’s work, Bayona. Planning on watching it soon. It’s on my watchlist.

john ruddick

I remember going on the ride at Universal Studios. It was amazing the train sequence when the underground flooded scared the crap out of me. On the ride you were sat in the train and the whole underground flooded all around you. Then the ceiling collapsed and a huge fuel tanker slid down towards you and stopped on a pillar. I was the first time I heard my mum swear!! Lol it was a great ride.

Louis Marzullo

Wow, excellent description! I didn't remember the theater experience as well as I thought. First of all, it's "Sensurround" & it's an audio effect that caused vibrations to be felt in the entire theater rather than a mechanical shaking of the seats. Well, I was only 8 at the time.

Bill W

Hoping for a tie so we get both.

Robert Inman

I believe Dawn's only exposure to Gene Hackman I've seen so far was as Lex Luthor. Poseidon Adventure is quite a different role.

Marc Duncan

Gene Hackman was great in "Crimson Tide". Also with Denzel Washington. Good movie!!

john ruddick

Is the swarm the one with Michael Caine in it? Or am I thinking of the wrong one?

john ruddick

Gene started acting when he was 30 so yes there is no such thing as a young Gene.

John Lawton

You are correct, sir! It’s the one with the bees and an All-Star cast. The bees gave the better performance.

john ruddick

Then yes I do remember it I think it almost goes into the "birdemic" category of bad movies!

Louis Marzullo

Yes but he always looked middle-aged. At 37, Mike Nichols cast him to play Dustin Hoffman's father in The Graduate. Now he was eventually replaced because he was too young for the role but the fact that Nichols considered him at all makes the point. I should have said "There's no such thing as a young-LOOKING Gene Hackman". ☺️

Louis Marzullo

If Poseidon hangs on, this will be my first poll win! You're not going to spoil it for me, John! 🤣😂🤣

Elliot Nesterman

Speaking of Gene Hackman, Dawn would love "The French Connection."

Louis Marzullo

And "The Conversation"!! The ultimate slow-burn, what a contrast with "Connection"! Hackman + Coppola + the youngest Harrison Ford Dawn will have seen yet (I think) + Cazale (Fredo). And a great one for her alter-ego to keep up her skills 🕵️

Louis Marzullo

Ah, so it was you! I saw it in the photo of all the DVD's & have been looking forward to it ever since!

Bill W

She saw him in Young Frankenstein, but didn't know who he was at the time. Also, that role is not very indicative of his work.

Bill W

Definitely need more Hackman AND Denzel. I think the only movies with them on Dawn's channel have been Young Frankenstein, Superman and Glory. We need her to see Fallen, Book of Eli, John Q, Malcolm X, The Hurricane, Training Day, Man On Fire, Flight, Philadelphia, Inside Man, American Gangster...

Bill W

We need her to see French Connection, A Bridge Too Far, Hoosiers, Mississippi Burning, The Firm, Absolute Power. In Unforgiven and Quick and the Dead he basically plays the same character.

David Strong

I would have nominated THE WAVE even though it is in Norwegian. Awesome movie!!! A triple plus! Watch it in your spare time...

Louis Marzullo

As long as it has nothing to do with fans at live sporting events getting drunk & acting silly!

Patrick Dillon

The Poseidon adventure is the grandfather of Disaster movies! It sets the bar for what others have to match.

Clayton Johnson

Guess Dawn is going to stay away from Cruise Ships for the next for seeable future.

David Strong

Not even close. A fjord w/a cliff that is being monitored because it might fall. The geologist who monitors it full-time is married to the lady who runs the big hotel in town. Very taut drama w/spectacular Norwegian scenery.
