I've always loved this movie

🤣 Dawn, someday that quote will hang above the entrance of your animal sanctuary!

Can anyone help "Unhappy Garden" over in the Random Chat section of Discord? He's having trouble accessing Patreon. I'd be unhappy, too! ☹️

Being a man, I'll always choose the balls first. You can always pick a better dream 😆.

College (University) sports are a huge deal in America. They actually outdraw professional sports in attendance. US school levels: Pre-School (or Pre-K) Kindergarten (ages 5/6) Grade School (Elementary, grades 1-3) Grade School (Middle, grades 4-6) Grade School (Jr. High School, grades 7, 8) High School (grades 9-12, ages 14/15-17/18) College (University)

Rudy was in the Navy for 2 years after high school. Then he worked at the power plant for 2 years, then attended Holy Cross College for 2 years. He was able to apply after his first semester (1/2 school year) as long as he completed 30 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 3.0) He was finally accepted after his 4th application. If he was rejected again from Notre Dame he could have stayed at Holy Cross and still earned a Bachelor's Degree. Historically, Notre Dame was one of the winningest college football teams. They had appeared in 3 consecutive Bowl games (winning 2) before Rudy made the team. When they had a big enough lead, and little enough time left that there was no chance of losing, they put Rudy in. He was on the field for the kickoff, and played 2 downs at defensive end, one time sacking the quarterback. The scene with the players turning their jerseys in never actually happened. Also, the crowd did not chant "Rudy" because, as you said...nobody knew who he was. He was carried off the field by a couple players, but it was done as a joke.

Dawn, Rudy's brother was a jerk...but his Dad was just trying to protect him. He didn't want him to get his hopes up, and then be crushed. You heard what everyone said.. he was small, and didn't have much athletic ability...NOR did he have the grades required for enrollment. Those were all facts, not just opinions. Rudy could quite possibly have been rejected on his final year of eligibility...and then he'd be heartbroken. Keep in mind that college in the US is not free. Notre Dame is a prestigious university, and only the BEST athletes are offered scholarships, and those may only be partial..not a "full ride". Annual tuition at Notre Dame in 1975 was around $3700. In today's figures that's about $20,000. Rudy got a lot of money from his father. I'm not discounting all his hard work and sacrifice, but as it happened, he had a little bit of luck on his side. And the fact that he actually got to dress for a game and play, was partly out of pity.

19:17 is what you missed. That's when the other players started to respect him.

I could be wrong, but I think American sports are a bigger deal to Americans than soccer is to the UK based one what I have heard. Heard in the UK people really only follow pro soccer teams while over here, while over here college sports, especially football and basketball, are basically just as big of a deal as professional sports. College games get broadcast on TV the same way professional sports do. College football and basketball in particular is such a big deal here that coaches get paid something like $5-8 million a year. Granted I think soccer outside the US has crazier fans than we do with the soccer hooligans and riots caused by games, but overally I think sports in America are a much bigger deal overall. And that is coming from someone who hates sports and doesn't pay attention to them in the slightest.

rude alf mcglesga

Never heard of this guy or seen this film...hope it's interesting*

rude alf mcglesga

Good reaction 'as always' ,and think i would enjoy the whole movie...If anyone wants to see what a wee guy can achieve in sport look up (jimmy 'jinky' johnstone) glasgow celtic football player (plenty of vids on youtube)...* dire poverty to "the lord of the wing".

Bill W

No one had heard of this guy until the movie came out. Even now, the movie is more famous than the guy.

john ruddick

You are very wrong about UK soccer being less of a deal then US sports. There are literal gangs based around every major football team in the UK. Throughout the 80's and 90's there were numerous murders attributed to these sports based gangs. Football is a religion in the UK. The premier league managers your version of a coach get paid on average over 15 million pounds a year with many players getting over 250,000 pounds a week.

AL SWEARENGINE

You should watch invincible next…another good football movie
